I took some photos indoors last evening and the faces are a tad on the speckley side. Im sure thats not a word, but I would like to soften these a little. I am using PS CS.

DUPLICATE THE LAYER

Then try Filter >Noise>Dust & Scratches

and or Filter >Noise>Despecle

and or use the clone tool to spot them out

If the eyes and mout loose there sharpned erase them allowing the original to show through.

There are other methods but a bit more advanced or other filters.

Photoshop CS2 has a "Reduce Noise" filter which does what you want. If you have a previous version:
1. Image>Mode>LAB Color
2. In the Channels palette, click the A channel. If it has a lot of noise…
3. Filter>Noise>Dust & Scratches to even out the noise. When you’re done, the channel won’t look like much of anything.
4. Channels>B channel. Do the same thing if it needs it.
5. Image>Mode>RGB

On of the more simple methods (simple to me, anyways) is to duplicate the layer, Filter>Blur>Guas. Blur, set the blend mode to darken (unless the speckles are darker, then set it to lighten, and apply a layer mask to block out any of the blurred image on the areas that it is not needed (i.e. layer mask to show just around the faces), then adjust the opacity on the blurred layer to make the modifcation look a bit more natural.

Just one of my quick methods. 🙂
