Hi, wondering if anyone can help.

I occasionally get pictures sent to me in email which are 1 to 2 MB (real estate)…and I have to somehow compress these to put on a website.

Can anyone recommend a decent freeware program that would easily enable me to compress images to a manageable size?

TIA

You forgot to say Mac or PC, but for PC, there’s IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com/

(you would save as jpg or gif).

That would be my choice too. Not too fancy, yet enough features to be worth installing.

Might also consider www.xat.com Image Optimizer, $49, but worth every penny. It runs rings around the rest. It can easily reduce a 250 KB Photoshop JPEG to 60 KB with no visible (to me) loss in quality. You can even selectively reduce areas of an image, usually parts you don’t care about. Since you are trying to put 1-2 MB files on the web, it sounds like you can’t do without it.

I have no commercial or other connection with the product.
