I can print to my HP photosmart 3310 AIO printer in every quality mode with all my programs EXCEPT photoshop. It only allows ‘Best’ and ‘Maximum DPI’. HP said it was a photoshop issue so I’m calling on all you guru’s to help figure out what the deal is. I messed with every setting I can think of in the print setup options but the choices for ‘Fast Draft’ ‘Fast Normal’ ‘Normal’ and ‘Automatic’ are all grayed out.

I really need this working so I can do some test prints for a project due tomorrow.

edit: Ok, here’s a wierd thing. When I cmd-click and select print on the file in finder it brings up a print screen via photoshop and I can print to all the quality types without a problem. But the file opened in PS won’t give me those options… *sigh*

Thanks all!
Brian

It can’t be a Photoshop issue – that is entirely up to the printer driver.

Photoshop hands the OS a bunch of bits, what happens next is up to the OS and the driver.

Call HP back and ask for someone more qualified to answer your question.

Thanks for the reply…

Even though the issue doesn’t happen with any other program you think it’s a driver/OS issue?

Again: I don’t see how it could be a Photoshop thing.

(although, being limited to "best quality" in Photoshop doesn’t sound like a big problem – unless you have an art project that really needs "crappy quality")

Ha! No, don’t need the project to be crappy quality, just need to run some prints in rough draft to check spacing and stuff.

I see what you’re saying… It’s really wierd though. The tech person at HP checked with some other resources to see where the problem might be and thought since only PS had the issue printing, then PS was the problem (which would be my assumption as well).

Is there some default printer setting options within PS somewhere?

HP drivers for the Mac are a nightmare. All HP software for the Mac is.

No, there’s nothing in Photoshop to control that….

I saw this post when I was looking for how to fix problem, even though it is an old post I thought I would answer.
I use photoshop CS3 and an HP printer. When you click on print in photoshop, near the upper right you will see a drop menu for "Color Handling". Change that from "Photoshop Manages Colors" to "Printer Manages Colors". Click "Print". In the next window, There is a drop down for "Layout". Select "Paper Type/Quality" and then you will be able choose "Fast Draft" from
"Quality"
