(Continuing an off-shoot from another topic <http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b80df5/19>.)

As I play around some more with the "continuous zoom" feature, I keep thinking this should start and end more quickly (if I had to rank them, the latter is more important). For example, when I want to stop at a specific zoom, it zooms for just a little bit more. It's really not such a big deal, but it takes away from the accuracy that I'd want to see.

I find the "toss" movement of the hand tool offers a similar delay, but in that instance it's more appropriate and easy to correct if you're not in the exact spot you intended.

Topic: CS Batch Rename rewriting format creating unreadable files
Sat, 28 February 2009 12:00
Michael_Spell (Photoshop begginer)
Using Photoshop CS...in File Browser...when Batch Renaming...we have Mac OS default setting and not selecting PC or Unix. But for some reason, the process is converting the original JPEG or RAW image files into an unreadable document or Exec file. We are using Mac OS 10.4.11. Is this some setting we've inadvertently activated OR another cause?

Topic: Cursor disappears in Add mode (Shape & Selection tools)
Sat, 21 February 2009 23:07
doug_downing (Photoshop begginer)
Help! My cursor is completely disappearing when in the Add (+) mode of both the Shape tools and the Selection tool--making it very hard to draw shapes.

I can still add to a selection, I just can't see the cursor when doing so. Interestingly, if I use the shortcut key (adding Shift while in normal mode) instead of changing modes via the options bar, I CAN see the cursor. Note also that this is the only mode that exhibits this problem. (Also, other tools, such as the Magic Wand, Lasso tool, and Pen tool, are completely unaffected.)

I'm using Photoshop CS2 on a Mac PowerBook G4. I recently upgraded operating systems from OS10.3.9 to the latest version of OS10.4. This is a recent problem and may have coincided with the OSX upgrade.

(Also, I've restarted the computer numerous times, and the problem persists.)

Thanks!
Topic: Pasting from Illustrator CS4 to Photoshop CS4 creates graphical glitches.
Thu, 19 February 2009 09:15
Michael_Streubert (Photoshop begginer)
I purchased the demos of these products and one of the first things I tried was working between Illustrator and Photoshop, something I do regularly in CS3.

Right away I noticed a huge graphical glitch when pasting an object from illustrator into Photoshop. Most of the time the object, when pasted, is invisible, has no bounding box, and creates a black messy frame around the document's window. Usually some part of this distortion affects other windows outside of photoshop and my desktop.

Here's one example of what it looks like.

<http://img253.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture2ww1.png>
No idea where the yellow frame inside my document came from, also a glitch.

I'm using an iMac that's a couple years old: Nvidia 7800GT, 2.33 GHZ Intel Core Duo, 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM. Could there be a problem with my computer?
 Topic: Anti-Aliasing Issue in CS3?
Wed, 18 February 2009 13:21
Ryan_Marchese (Photoshop begginer)
I work with importing/rasterizing layouts and elements from Illustrator and flattening them in Photoshop for production. For some reason though my import dialogue just freaked out on me: Anti-Aliasing was selected (which I need for the text on all of my graphics), but the document didn't actually Anti-Alias (the text was too jagged).

I restarted PS, imported again, and toggled AA off then on - and now the problem seems to have fixed itself. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, my import dialogue is supposed to preserve settings from the last import, but every now and then it resets all the info to a default. Is there a way to avoid this?
Topic: How do I get Photoshop to remember the save location for selected color.
Mon, 16 February 2009 21:19
Jyroflux_Blue (Photoshop begginer)
Previous to CS3 whenever I went to load a saved selected color setting, Photoshop went directly to that folder. Now the OS seems to override that and it goes to recently selected folders from other apps. This is such a waste of time. I have to maneuver to the correct folder now. Is this fixable? It would help if you could add to the sidebar of the Adobe dialog windows. I normally us the OS X dialog windows because of this.
Topic: saving image with transparent background for web/Dreamweaver
Mon, 16 February 2009 16:16
Anne_Wertheim (Photoshop begginer)
How do I save a little image, so that the background stays transparent. I already have the image set up in Photoshop with a transparent background and have saved it as gif and png. When I import it into Dreamweaver the background stays white instead of transparent. What am I not doing right, since I read several posts saying that png and gif are the right formats to save in, if you want a transparent background?
Thanks for any help with this,

Topic: pdf slideshow from PS CS4 - not bridge/output!
Fri, 06 February 2009 09:16
h_m_uk (Photoshop begginer)
Does anyone know if I can get it back in the automate settings, perhaps as a legacy function?

I've just downloaded the PS CS4 and LR2 trials (and using the beta LR2.2 and beta ACR) as my PS CS2 and old raw plugin don't open my new cameras images.
imho I don't think they've really thought it through from a workflow pov, I provide both contacts and a pdf slideshow to my clients. If I use the bridge/output method for both on every job - and all the swapping over of the options that entails I will be smacking my head off the nearest wall after a couple of days.
The bridge/output also limits my choices severely - I thought the idea of upgrading was to IMPROVE functionality......... I'm not usually a grumbler, but I'm about to pay an upgrade price of nearly a grand (in £'s - not $!) essentially for a lovely raw plugin and nice LR2 web galleries - it's not looking like a particularly good deal :-(
I've found the "PS CS4 goodie" folder on the adobe site and installed the contact sheet II option into the automate area - it's just not practical for me to have a set of contacts in pdf format, it's definitely a step backwards for me.
I'd hoped for an improvement, with options to include a title, date etc - but nope.
I'm also not happy with the pdf slideshow in bridge/output - I miss the compression options, I often need to keep them small on the file front - whilst keeping the screen looking good (150ppi compression works well) - which I don't have the ability to do this in cs4, constraining to screen size choices with a "high" or "low" option is useless to me. I just don't get it - this is pro software - with a pro price - is it too much to ask for more pro workflow considerations? Come on Adobe, play the game......
Apologies for the rambling rant and general grumpiness - all help & suggestions very much appreciated :-)

As stated above CS3 is only fast once I leave the program and come back. For instance I use the eraser to delete a large area of a photograph, I used circular motions stopped and immediately selected the move tool. It takes about a minute for the operation to complete but if I leave the program and jump to another app and jump back the action is completed or just about to complete. Anyone else?

I am new to Photoshop and have no clue what I did wrong. My son helped me create a large format document 20X40 poster which is a collage of photos and scanned images. A memorabilia piece I wanted to print and hang in my office. When hitting "save as" the print option never highlighted, since I was not planning to print it on my home printer, I exported it to my desktop and saved it to a cd. The file is huge 3.1GB. I took it to kinkos to have it printed and they say it crashed their system and will not print. I assume something is wrong either with my set up of the original file or in how I exported it. Is that enough information for advice on how to get this printed?

Hello,
I'm using Photoshop 6 on a desktop iMac G3 OS 10.3.9
For some reason the thumbnails of all pictures
worked on and saved in photoshop are pixelated (well -
just plain degraded, really) compared to the normally
acceptable thumbnail that represents the original
picture-file. (I didn't have this problem when I was
using the same photoshop 6 on an earlier desktop with
OS 8.6 all those years ago). The problem's the same
whether saving in jpg psd or tif.
And I can't see anything in the 'Preferences' 'Saving
Files' that would address the problem.

Editing and saving in iPhoto or any other application
produces perfectly fine thumbnails.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Topic: Decoding a Magic Eye image
Sat, 31 January 2009 10:17
T._Schmidt (Advanced Photoshop user)
Magic Eye images contain two images (one for each eye) that create an illusion of 3dimensionality. They are coverd with a pattern that helps you overlapping them by squinting. Is there a way to recover the original hidden image (a greyscale image where white comes towards you and black goes away from you)? I've tried Ps's Difference Mode, here are the results:
< http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1RwVXelUAyoMyTb2DF KSZtcJ9Jqi1>

The hidden image on the left is a flat shape (Normal view on top, Difference blending mode applied to a copy of the layer and then moved horizontally until the shape appears). The one on the right is a 3d shape and you can go from front to back through the shape by moving the top layer from left to right (or right to left). I would like to have patternless image instead, that features all "layers" (not Ps Layers) of the 3d body as brightness levels (height map) similar to this:

Fri, 30 January 2009 14:52
Brian_Lake (Photoshop begginer)
I have an action that is generating fullsize as well as thumbnails for my images. When these are done they are using the save for web dialog box. My question is:

How do I get the action to not remember the specific folder I originally saved my first image to when recording. Instead I want it to remember which folder the source image came from? Does that make any sense? I know I can have the dialog pop up everytime but it still reverts to where the action was recorded.

Topic: Need Help Scaling Photoshop Effect to Higher Resolution
Wed, 28 January 2009 21:21

Hi Friends,

Working on a cool PS web tutorial and it worked as promised. Here is the site link: < http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photoshop-text/text-effec ts/light-burst/>

This tutorial is done at 640x480, 72 dpi.

I want to make a larger, higher-rez version for print (t-shirt, mug, hats, on cafepress). When I tried the tutorial with PS set at 300 dpi and 15" page size, the effect did not work as shown. In particular, I had trouble with the "wind" application in steps 14-16: < http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photoshop-text/text-effec ts/light-burst/page-5.php>

Perhaps, due to the higher rez, the wind filter did not distort the text as shown in the tutorial. It was much less pronounced. Repeated applications of "wind" did not salvage the effect.

Can anyone help me attain this tutorial effect at higher resolution?

Hope I've been clear enough here. Don't hesitate to ask for clarification.

Thank you.

Topic: Very odd MacOS startup problem
Mon, 26 January 2009 19:28
Scott_Weichert (Photoshop expert)
Suddenly the past couple days on boot my MacPro launches a droplet "Covert 350 - Make JPEG.exe" or something like that. This causes Imageready CS32 to launch. ( I also have Photoshop CS3 and CS4 installed)

I have soured my drive Startup Items folders, checked account settings.... nothing is set to launch this droplet anywhere. I compressed The Photoshop CS2 > Samples > Droplets folder and now the droplet doesn't launch, but Imageready still does.

This is a random new issue without any new installs. I'm dumbfounded. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the IR launch at boot?

OS 10.5.6, but that's been installed for a few weeks.

I'm mocking up a web page in photoshop and have encountered an oddity with the Cambria font.

The line height, when text is selected, appears to be about twice what is set in the character panel.

The font looks fine, but the cursor and the black selection background isn't right.

I've cleared my font caches, restarted, etc., but it persists, and apparently only on this font.

Has anyone else seen this?

Alright guys I need some help. I have the CS3 Suite running on a Macbook (Company Computer)with Leopard. All programs in the Suite were running fine all updated all functioning. Then to my joy I had a hard drive failure and received a new one from Apple. Thankfully I had used time machine to do my backups some Im were a was before the crash. So I restored with Time Machine and now Photoshop JUST PHOTOSHOP isn't working! When you go to open the app it opens but as soon as you select a new file or open an existing one it give me a crash error.

This is what the report it wants to send to Adobe says:

Topic: Move Tool Auto-Select Group/Layer Toggle?
Tue, 20 January 2009 21:39
John_E_Derry (Photoshop begginer)
Hi:

I regularly use the Move Tool's Options palette Auto-Select Group functionality. I've not been able to find any reference to a keyboard shortcut for being able to temporarily toggle from auto-selecting Group to Layer. It seems to me that it would be a useful shortcut.

As it is, the user must select "Layer" in the drop-down menu in the Options palette. It would be much quicker if a keyboard shortcut enabled this toggling.

I've noticed that—while the Auto-Select option is set to Group—you can hold the command key and right-click a layer (with the Move cursor) within a group and it will be selected in the Layer panel. At this point, you can move the selected layer using the arrow keys, but not with the Move cursor. It would be really slick if the Move tool cooperated and allowed moving the selected layer.

Is there some shortcut or technique I'm missing that would approximate this functionality?

Topic: Photoshop CS4 Crashing on Saving (Part Deux)
Tue, 20 January 2009 18:34
Lisa_Boggs (Photoshop begginer)
Hello,

I'm actually having a similar problem to one of the earlier posters.

I'm editing a wedding with CS4. I just switched to the trial version and am purchasing in about a week or so. Have been having no issues until the past couple of days. I drag a series of JPEG photos from CS4 Bridge into Photoshop. I edit a JPEG photo with some actions (thereby creating layers), hit "Save As" and I hit "JPEG." It automatically wants to save that file as a "copy" but I delete copy because I want it to save over that file. Typically up pops a box saying "Cancel" or "Replace." About 70% of the time it works, but 30% of the time that box with "Cancel" and "Replace" comes up blank, and I have to force quit Photoshop because it freezes.

I originally thought the problem was my new terabyte hard drive, so I stopped editing on that. Now I'm editing on my actual iMac hard drive (which has 100GB available). But it still keeps happening. Now I'm thinking it has to be a CS4 issue, but I have no idea what. Could it be the actions I'm using? The number of files I open at once? I can't figure it out. I'm not super computer savvy, so I'm hoping someone can help!

Many thanks in advance,

Lisa
