Topic: Printing difficulty with Elements 2.0
Sun, 05 June 2005 02:19
Barbara_Gotch (Photoshop begginer)
I am have a new PowerbookG4 running OSX. Have been using Elements 2.0 with no difficulties until yesterday when nearly every jpeg I open is followed by a message that says, I need to unlock the photo and when I then go to print to any printer, nothing is on the page except jibberish in single lines of type. The color printers just keep on running empty until the papers supply has run dry. I am stumped since this a new problem. Up until yesterday everything was fine. What's going on?
Topic: Epson Drver Dialog Different in Organizer and Std. Editor Modes
Sat, 04 June 2005 18:46
Don_Stouder (Photoshop begginer)
Hi Everyone,

I quickly search the messages and do not see a topic that discusses the problem I am having. I am running PSE 3 (as well as PS CS) under Win XP and have a Epson 1280 printer.

Here is the problem. If I initiate printing from the Organizer mode of PSE 3 and then in the Print > Properties Button > Main Tab > Media Type Down Arrow in the Driver dialog, I get a choice of only 4 papers: Matt HW, Photo, Premium Glossy, Photo Glossy. There is no Colorlife choice.

Now if I go to the Standard Edit mode and do the same thing there, I get 11 different papers, including Colorlife. I get the same thing (paper choice) when printing from Photoshop CS.

I would not worry about this so much, except I can not use the Print Package from PSE 3, because it bumps me back to the Organizer limited paper choice screen in the printer driver.

What is going on and how can I fix it? My printer driver screen under the display panel only shows one 1280 printer installed.

TIA

Topic: Organzer Doesn't show CD tag
Fri, 03 June 2005 20:38
philip_gold (Photoshop begginer)
When photo's are moved to a CD they all end up in the root directory. That makes them impossible to locate outside of Organizer. Also I already have thousands of pictures on CD. I added them to the organizer, but the thumbnails do not show that they are located on a CD. The properties window shows that they originated from a CD. Is there a way to make the CD tag appear?

The layers tutorial has me start with a group of layers that already exist.
How did they get that way?

This may sound like treason, but can anyone recogmmend a animation product that I can use to create animation (using gif or psd pictures that move around a web site)?

I am not sure what (if any) Adobe products can do this or what other products out there can accomplish my needs (and not have a deep learning curve). I have spent a lot of time learning PSE3 and love it but not sure if it will satisfy my requirements. Here is what I want to do (among other things).

I have a object that I created in PSE3 (a littld man sitting on a car) that I want to move around my web page in an curving way (ie., from the bottom to around the sides and up to the top and back down again. I also have a PSD logo that I created that I want to (when the person opens the web page) start out real small (in the lower right hand of the screen) and get bigger and bigger (moving to the center of the screen) till it fills the page (with transparancy set so readers can see what is on top of the logo).

I want to create the animation (movements (or is it called Flash?) and then import it into a great web building program I am creating my web site with.

I have received so much help on this forum that I thought I would try again. Thanks in advance.

 Topic: Tiger and Elements 2.0
Wed, 01 June 2005 16:28
Jeremy_Handelman (Photoshop begginer)
I've been happily using PSE 2.0 for several years on a Mac G4 1GB dual processor with plenty of RAM. Recently upgraded to Tiger and Elements is now having problems working in conjunction with my Epson 3200 Photo Scanner. If I try to import via the Epson software, Photoshop crashes. If I try to import via SilverFast, it freezes up Photoshop. I tried trashing Photoshop preferences and also did an uninstall and reinstall of the Epson 3200.

Elements 2.0 is fine for all my current needs so I wasn't looking to purchase more software. (I needed to upgrade my OS for other applications.)

I'm guessing it's a problem with the Epson driver and I don't see any driver updates to 10.4 on the Epson website.

Any advice?
Topic: backups of photo files and organizer catalog
Wed, 01 June 2005 15:22
robert_doyle_pugmire (Photoshop begginer)
I have PSE-3 and use Windows. My backups have been in two separate backups using "sonic my dvd" to backup the C: drive files where all the photos are located. The second backup to a separate dvd is using PSE-3s backup function using the second buttom option of backing up the catalog. I see there is a first button option of doing a copy/move that sounds like it backs up the entire photo files along with the catalog tag files but I have heard differently on this also. What is correct? If this is correct where the first option backs up everything other than the incremental backup shortcut, why shouldn't I use this as my total backup each time?

What is the best way to copy "everything" and send it all to my son so he can start out using what I have put together so far? Once he has my entire photo collection and tag files, what is the best way to send "new and recently tag files" to him?

thanks

Hi everyone,

I just purchased PE for my Mac and after installing Download Manager, I'm getting this error:

"File cannot be downloaded. Unable to access server (storedl.adobe.com). Please try again later."

I'm in a bit of a rush and need the app quickly. Plus, Adobe support is not open at the moment.

Any thoughts on what I can do while I wait for Support to open?

Topic: Problem playing back custom slide show
Wed, 01 June 2005 05:15
Ralph_Forgione (Photoshop begginer)
I created custom slide show on my laptop and am having trouble playing it back or reviwing the slide show. When I hit play button the story book seems to move forward but the photos are not moving forward and the transitions are not happening. Is it still OK for me to burn a CD or will the cd experience similar problems. My slide show consists of 64 slides. I'm sorry to say that because of this problem I had to resort to using another product to create the slide show and am very disappointed with adobe. My expectations for adobe were much higher. I expected no problems in creating something as simple as a slide show. When I view the photos from the browser it seems to work OK. Can you please tell me why I cannot play back the custom slide show with photoshop elements 3? I'm running Windows XP SP 2 with 384mb of ram and a 20gb hard drive.
Topic: ARE YOU READY TO BE RICH TODAY ?????!!!! COOOOOOL !!
Wed, 01 June 2005 01:52
amolaahh (Photoshop begginer)
Dear Friends: Greetings: I am a retired attorney. A few years ago a man
came to me with a letter. He asked me to verify the fact that this was
legal to do. I told him I would review it and get back to him. When I
first read the letter my client brought me, I thought it was some
"off-the-wall" idea to make money. A week and a half later we met
in my office to discuss the issue. I told him the letter he originally
brought me was not 100% legal. My client then asked me to alter it to
make it perfectly legal. I asked him to make one small change in the
letter. I was still curious about the letter, so he explained to me how
it works. I thought it seemed like a long shot, so I decided against
participating. But before my client left, I asked him to keep me
updated on his results. About two months later, he called me to tell me
he had received over $800,000 in cash. I didn't believe him, so he
asked me to try this idea and find out for myself. I thought about it
for a couple of days and decided I really didn't have anything to
lose, so I asked him for a copy of the letters. I followed the
instructions exactly, mailed 200 copies, and sure enough, the money
started coming in! It arrived slowly at first, but coming. I kept a
precise record of the earnings, and in the end, it totaled $978,493! I
could hardly believe it. I met with my friend for lunch to find out
exactly how it worked. He told me there are quite a few similar letters
around, but this one is different because there are six names at the
end of the letter, not five like some others. This fact alone results
in your name being in far more returns. The other fact was the help I
gave him, making sure the whole thing was legal, since no one wants to
take the risk of doing something illegal.
: By now you are surely curious to know what small changes to make. If
you sent a letter like this one out, in order to be completely legal,
you must actually sell something in order to receive a dollar in
return. So when you send a dollar to each of the names on the list, you
must include these words, "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST" and
include your name and address. This is the key to the program. The item
you will receive for the dollar you sent to the six people below is the
letter.
: At the time I first tried this idea, I was earning a good living as a
lawyer. But everyone in the legal profession will tell you there is a
lot of stress that comes with the job. I told myself if things worked
out, I would retired from my practice and play golf. I decided to try
the letter again, but this time I sent 500 copies. Three months later ,
I had totaled $2,341,178!
: Here are a few reasons a person might give for not trying this
program: Ø Some people think they can never make a lot of money with
anything this simple. Ø Some are afraid they will be ridiculed for
trying Ø Some dream of large sums of money, but do nothing to actually
achieve it. Ø Some are just plain lazy. Ø Some are afraid of losing
their investment. They think this program is designed to beat them out
of a few dollars.
: The system works if you will just try it. But you must follow the
simple instructions exactly, and in less than three months, you will
receive $800,000 GUARANTEED! Keep what you are doing to yourself for
awhile. Many will tell you it won`t work and will try to talk you out
of your dreams. Let them know of your success after it works.
: LETTERS FROM PARTICIPANTS IN THIS PROGRAM:
: My name is David Rhodes. In 1992 my car was repossessed and bill
collectors were housing my. I was laid off and my unemployment ran out.
In October of 1992, I received a letter telling me how to earn $800,000
anytime I wanted. Of course, I was skeptical. But because I was so
desperate and virtually had nothing to lose, I gave it a try. In
January 1993, my family and I went on a 10-day cruise. The next month I
bought a brand new Mercedes with cash! I am currently building a home
in Virginia and I will never have to work again. This money program
really works perfectly every time. I have never failed to receive less
than $500,000. This is a legitimate, money-making opportunity. It does
not require you to sell anything or to come in contact with people. And
, best of all, you only leave the house to mail the letters. If you
have always believed that someday you would get the lucky break, then
simply follow the instructions and make dreams come true.
: Larry McMahon, Norfolk, VA Six months ago, I received this letter and
ignored it. Five more came within a period of time and I ignored them
also. I was tempted, but I was convinced that they were just a Hoax.
After three weeks of deliberating, I decided to give it a try ( not
expecting much ). Two weeks went by and nothing happened. The fourth
week was unbelievable! I cant say I received $800,000 but I received
$400,000. For the first time in years, I am debt free. I am doing this
again, only this time starting with 500 post. I strongly recommend that
you follow the instructions exactly as outlined in this letter.
: INSTRUCTIONS
1. Immediately send $1.00 to each of the six people on the list at the
end of this letter. Wrap the dollar bill in a note saying " Please
add me to your mailing list" and include your name and address.
: 2. Copy this letter. You do not have to type it 200 times. Simply
place your cursor at the top of the page, hold it and drag it all the
way down to the end of the letter. Then click on "edit" and select
"copy". Now open up a notepad file on your computer and put the cursor
at the top of the page in the notepad, click on 'edit' and then select
'paste' it will copy the letter for you onto your computer.
: 3. Remove the name next to the #1 on the list and move the rest of
the names up one position (#2 becomes #1, #3 becomes #2, etc.....) Then
place your name in the #6 position. Then save it, make sure it is saved
as a txt. file.
: 4. When you have completed the instructions, take this letter and
then go to (Google,Yahoo,...) and type in (Making Money Massege
board,or post massege,...)and start posting your copy to 200 message
boards,or more this is only the minimum, you can post as much as you
like...The more copies you send the better the results. Keep a copy of
this letter so you can use it a second time. Post it out again in six
months, but Post it with the addresses you receive with each dollar. It
will work better the second time. NOTE: This service is 100% legal -
(Refer to title 18 section 1302 of the U.S. Postal & lottery laws)
: How does it work? When you send out 200 Posts, it is estimated that
at least 15 people will respond and send you a $1.00. ($15.00) Those 15
will Post 200 Posts each and 225 people send you $1.00 ($225.00) Those
225 people Post 200 Posts each and 3,375 people send you $1.00
($3,375.00) Those 3,375 post 200 posts each and 759,375 people send you
$1.00 ($759,375.00) At this point your name drops off the list, but so
far you have received $813,615.00. P.S. When your money begins to come
in, give the first 10% to charity with spirit and share a good fortune!

Topic: Batch Image Resizing----It cannot detect orientation???
Mon, 30 May 2005 23:54
tgm2tothe10thpower (Photoshop begginer)
As near as I can tell, PE in batch mode can resize ok, but cannot do so
intelligently with regard to the image's orientation.

For example, if I wanted to resize all my 3000x2000 photos to 800x600, I
could specify 800 as the width to try for and let the vertical size be
calculated, which works fine for all the landscape images, but what if my
photo was portrait oriented instead? I would not want 800 for the width
then, but 800 for the height!

So I'm basically stuck here. Does PE have any way to manage this that is
not obvious? If it cannot manage this, then this is a SEVERE oversight in
the software design.

Before any of you mention 11View: I would use 11View (a freeware app) for
doing the bulk resizing, because it *does* offer a way to swap destination
image size based upon orientation, but it cannot allow you to supply a
source directory tree.

Hello,
I'm late to this discussion by a few months, but here goes anyway. My older HP 812c has a bottom margin setting wider than the two sides and top. This is evidently set at the factory so as to accommidate page numbers, etc. One can actually change the margin settings, but there is always a small difference in the bottom margin. My problem is, that when a landscape mode is chosen for printing pictures in Elements 2, that margin does not transfer to the new "bottom" of the page, but stays to the old bottom which is now the side of the picture. How do I change this?
Thanks for any information

Hiya

Elements 2 has just decided it wants to download some updates,
apparantly a file called AWEXFiles.TXT, and this has ended in "The

else or is there something in my firewall settings, perhaps, which
stops this working?

Should I care?

Topic: Process Multiple Files Command doesn't work on edited pictures
Thu, 26 May 2005 19:40
Phil_Goff (Photoshop begginer)
I collect my digital photos in a separate folder and organize them in Photoshop Album. From the Organizer view, I select the best pictures and open them in editor. Once I edit these pictures, (crop, etc.), I use the Process Multiple Files Command to save the edited pictures to a separate folder. Instead of saving a copy of each edited picture, it saves multiple copies of a single picture.

If I do the very same process without first editing the pictures, the Process Multiple Files Command works fine. But once I edit the pictures, the Process Multiple Files Command only saves a single picture multiple times.

What is happening?

In using Photoshop Elements II, images (photographs) opened normally until a

Paintshop Pro or ACDSee, they are fine. The same images also opened just as
dark in Photoshop CS that I installed last week and just as dark in
Photoshop CS2 that I installed today. Any thoughts as to why images are so
dark when they open in Adobe programs? (It makes it impossible to adjust

Topic: Slow scrolling in file browser in Photoshop Elements.

Alceryes[1] (Photoshop begginer)
One of my clients is having a problem in the file browser (file - open) in
PE. He is a real-estate broker and deals with hundreds (maybe thousands) of
high quality photos. When he tries to scroll to the picture he wants, the
scroll bar is locked until every icon for every file in the current view
gets the PE icon. This process is apparently VERY slow, taking him a few
minutes or longer to get to the file he wants if say the file he is trying
to open begins with a letter at the end of the alphabet. Is there any way of
turning off this caching process (I'm assuming that's what's going on)? I
tried the 'do not cache thumbnails' in the folder options to no avail.
The system has no spyware or viruses and was just defragmented.
TIA.
Topic: Photoshop Elements 3 print packages
Thu, 26 May 2005 04:06
Mandy_Tredoux (Photoshop begginer)
I used to use Photoshop Elements 2 and Photoshop Album 2 but recently bought Elements 3, I have uninsalled Elements 2 but don't want to Uninstall Album yet as some of the print packages are better. In Create Photo Books in Photoshop Album there is layouts in "Just photos" where you can put four photos per page without borders etc and when you print onto an A4 (210mm X 294mm) page it prints the photos next to each other from edge to edge of page without any white areas in between which is ideal for printing photos without wasting paper.
In Elements the page sizes seem to be smaller therefore it does not fully utilize the A4 page. (It seems to use smaller pages for its books and Albums)
Is there any way the template used in Album can be imported into Photoshop Elements, I do notice that under the templates file in Album those particular files "just photos" seem to have a different filename (not Adobe but "mypublisher) is there any way they could be converted by Elements 3 ? or perhaps downloaded into individual print package of Elements 3. I have tried to use the customize the individual print setup in Elements 3 but it always seems to put a white area in between the photos therefore you can never use the full size that could fit on the page. Any suggestions ? I would realy just like to use 1 package instead of 2. The other question I have is when I open Organiser in Elements 3 and try to use a photo filed in My Picutres it takes forever to bring the file up and gives the message "looking for missing file", this is extremely irritating and takes so long. Should I be storing my files somewhere else to make this faster ?
Thanks a ton, hope someone can help me. Mandy, South Africa

I have a series of TIFF files that are bitmap files black on white. I open them convert them from bitmap to Grayscale and then to RGB using image mode. The correct color shows up in the box in the lower right but when I click ok and ok either nothing happens to the actual background or it may turn a shade of gray.

Any Ideas of what I may be missing?

Stockman lives on an 11 Million Dollar estate on Conyers Farm Road in Greenwich Connecticut.
We in the UAW believe that Stockman has falsely represented his company and has dishonored his alliance with the UAW and should be made to forfit any bonus earnings while CEO.

Remember ..... the JOB you save could be your OWN !!!

Topic: Re: Elements has become Default for Opening all Photos

I just thought I'd add another way of handling this problem that might be simpler for some. Also, it avoids editing the Registry.

In WindowsXP (and most Windows versions) open [Windows Explorer].

Go to [Tools] > [Folder Options] > [File Types](a tab).

Be patient while the flashlight finds all file types on your drives. When this window [Registered File Types] is populated,
scroll down to the extension you want to change (jpg, gif, png...whatever). Select that extension and click [Change].

A new window pops up: [Open With]. In this window, scroll to the program you want as default opener for the extension you've selected. Click Okay.

You must select the extensions to change one-by-one. Otherwise it's real simple.

Incidentally, for I have set all my graphics to Irfanview for the last 3-4 years and am real happy with it, also it's free.

Hope this helps,

Bob
 Topic: Changing color profile

I shoot in RAW, make changes using the RAW editor screen and then export all my RAW files to TIFF (from File,Export in the organizer). However, I would like the option in the export screen to tag all files with the color space that I want. This is much needed as I cannot find a workaround, except by editing each image individually. I have searched many forums, but cannot find a way to batch change the color profiles in PSE 3.01. Any ideas?
 Topic: Batch Brightness Adjustment

I know I can "autofix" an entire folder using the batch process. But I want
to increase the brightness more than autfix allows. Is there a way to set
custom levels for that purpose?

Thanks for any comments.

Topic: could not find proxy server error when trying to order prints

minmax (Photoshop begginer)
I do not know how to upload my photos to oFoto, now KodakGallery, from within Photoshop Elements 3. After selecting my photos that I want to print, I receive this Error: Could not find proxy server <http://adobeols.kodakgallery.com/AdobeFtre.jsp>?
sessionid=a list of numbers (each try comes back with different numbers)

I have refreshed my service preferences, but that did not work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Topic: Elements 2 PDF Slideshow - last image in folder appears first

PSE 2 always puts the last image in a folder first when compiling a Pdf
Slideshow, even when adding several folders to the file. My solution
has been to delete it and add it again, when it attaches itself to the
end of the list.

Is this a bug that PSE 3 clears? Is there a way to prevent it?

The images order correctly by name and date in explorer, and none of
them have been worked in PSE beforehand.

TIA
