Hello. Without going into the fact im slow reading manual. I need some basic help with color settings. Its currently set at:

North America General purpose defaults:
RGB: srgb iec619*****
cmyk: U.S web coated swop v2
gray: gray gamma 2.2
Spot: dot gain 20 %
Color management policies: all off

I live in Europe. The problem is that documents i open give error messages that it doesnt fit the current color policy, dot gain and so on.. Also Colors from Macromedia flash are NOT compatible with the current photoshop settings. I just want a decent WEB graphic color setting that shows same colors as my other programs.

Please, any help is appreciated

You don’t mention the version of Photoshop that you are using, but I’ll stick my neck out and guess verson 5. If I’m right, everyone who is so inclined should buy a beer for a friend. :-). In any case, whatever version you are running, the situation is probably not that bad – all you really need to do is ignore the warning messages.

There is a patch for version 5 (5.0.1 or 5.0.2) that has a color setup wizard that facilitates turning off color management, simulating the halcyon days of version 4. PS 6 also makes it easier to turn off color management.

Whether you are version 5 or not, your settings are not far off. All you need to do, I believe is turn off the warnings for non-matching embedded profiles. This is done by setting an option to ignore profile mismatches in the color settings dialog.

I’m surprised you are getting any mention of dot gain – this is a CMYK function and you should be dealing with RGB files only. Perhaps you can clarify where that message is coming from. Is someone handing you CMYK files to put on the web?
