Irfanview – really decent freeware – can do this, you might even be able to do a batch conversion and resize them all in one operation (not sure if this is suitable or would give good qualily).

http://www.irfanview.com/

* Many supported file formats
* Multi language support
* Thumbnail/preview option
* Slideshow (save slideshow as EXE/SCR or burn it to CD) * Support for Adobe Photoshop Filters
* Drag & drop support
* Fast directory view (moving through directory)
* Batch conversion (with image processing)
* Email option
* Multimedia player
* Print option
* Change color depth
* Scan (batch scan) support
* Cut/crop
* IPTC editing
* Effects (Sharpen, Blur, Filter Factory)
* Capturing
* Extract icons from EXE/DLL/ICLs
* Lossless JPG rotation
* Many hotkeys
* Many command line options
* Many PlugIns
* Only one EXE-File, no DLLs, no Shareware messages like "I Agree" or "Evaluation expired"
* No registry changes without user action/permission!
* and many more

Batch Conversion:

Select the Output Format at bottom left. This works just like Save and Save As. The Options button lets you choose various operations to perform, also just like their Save and Save As versions.

Use the Advanced Options button to apply many special operations to the images during conversion. These options are much like their versions on the Image menu. The options are:

Crop, Resize, Change color depth, Horizontal flip, Vertical flip, Rotate left, Rotate right, Convert to greyscale, Negative, Sharpen, Gamma Correction, Contrast, Brightness and Color Balance.

Purley out of interest…..if I used Irfanview to Enlarge a photo for printing out, wouldn’t the image details be altered so that it would not look so perfect like the original? Thats if you understand what I am trying to say?
I have seen a program called Altimira Gif Print Pro (think thats it) that is meant to do it, but definatly if there is a Free program that will do the same thing with the same results it seems better to get the free one.
It is the print out results that I am worried about.

Hi mscir,
I tried that download but it was extremly complicated and badly designed from a user-friendly point o view. I did transfer an image into it but could not view it. Is there anything simpler? All I want to do is enlarge? thanks.

"Irfanview complicated"????? Hmmm, perhaps just unfamiliar.

Open the image in Irfan…. Select "Image/Resize-resample (or use control-R) On that dialog screen select…
"Set new size as percentage"…. and enter the increased amount (200-300%?)- check on "Preserve aspect ratio"
"Size method" = resample

Apply using "OK"….

……and then try "shift-S" to sharpen the overblown image.

Use "Save as" to save the altered image so you do not over-write the original.

You DO have to change the "View/Display options"…. to "Fit only big images to desktop" if you want to view a larger than sceen image, otherwise, I suspect you were only loking at a corner of the unaltered image. Remember that computer screens are going to display individual pixels unless you instruct a program to use some other zoom level.

Miss Calm,

I agree, the user interface in Irfanview could be improved. Unfortunately Irfanview is the only freeware program I’ve used.

I found this list of several freeware programs, although I haven’t tried any of them:

http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/batchresizecrop/

============================================================ ===

I searched with google for "batch image enlarge free" and found several hits that looked promising, I think they are all sharware, but several have a free trial period.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 &q=batch+image+enlarge+free&btnG=Google+Search

============================================================ =====

If you spend a little while going through those you’ll probably find something easier to use than Ifranview.

Good Luck,
Mike

It is a bit "geeky", just takes some getting used to. Super fast & lightweight though.

Tip: Use the key combination Control-S to save and it will give you a chance to save IN THE SAME DIRECTORY which is not typical behavior for other programs. Saveas will go to the folder you used last time you opened the program (annoying).

Why go looking when you have a batch program right at you finger tips. Open up actions and create new action start recording and enlarge one of you pictures when you are finished enlarging, resampling,retouching and saving turn the recorder off. You now have a batch editor. Dennis
