When I download images from my Canon S50, they are in jpeg. I save the jpegs on a CD to prevent future degradation. I then open selected ones, size them as tiff at 11×17" at 240 res on my hard drive. I make necessary adjustments and resize to smaller dimensions as needed. Sometimes I resize to 6×8 or smaller and save them on my hard drive as jpegs at 72 res for emailing. When I do this and mail them (lately to myself as a test ) they will not open, and I get an error message asking whethetr I want to search the web for a program to open them or designate the program. When I designate Photoshop CS (or 7.0 that I still have) they open. How can I save tiffs as jpegs, downsize, and have them open readily in emails?

I’m sure someone who knows will respond, but here’s my $.02.

1) ensure that you name the file xxx.jpg or xxx.tif
2) if you’re saving a jpeg, use "file/save for the web…" that will strip out bad characters from the name and some extra stuff that "save as…" can stick in the jpeg.
3) AOL has options for compressing image and files that are attached to emails. Turn them off. I rarely have problems opening files from anyone (Max, Windows, or Unix/Linux), when I do it’s almost always from an AOL account.

My suggestion would be to turn AOL off completely and get a better ISP, but I’m old and opinionated so feel free to ignore me. 😉

Save for Web gives you different choices of format, gif, jpeg, PNG and Windows BMP. Look at the dropdown and the manual.
