I have just reformatted my hard drive and am wondering if there is a "best" order to install my programs. I remember reading about this a few months ago, but after searching the forums cannot locate the messages.

I have Windows2000, Service Pack 4 on a PC and will install Illustrator 10, Photoshop 7, Pagemaker 7, InDesign 2, and Acrobat Reader for starters.

The office just purchased Norton AntiVirus 2003 as well, so I had to install that–though I’ve heard that it may cause some conflicts, I am hoping it won’t be as bad as I hear!

I would load in the reverse order of how much I use them, the ones used least loaded first.

The only problem is that if you are doing default installs, most programs will try to take control of file formats they understand, so GIF and JPG wind up being opened in the last installed program.

If you do custom installs, you can avoid this.

That sounds simple enough. I can always reset which program opens each file type via the folder options in the control panel.

I would load the newest (date released) programs LAST. That way you don’t worry about overwriting dll’s, etc.
