Someone at work asked me to scan her wedding pictures, so she can send them per email to her friends. I have a basic scanner, a 2100 HP. I have no idea how to scan and sort the pictures, and what to do as far as the size is concerned for the email. I have an idea that jpeg, is what I should use to send them, that’s about all I know.I have Adobe Photoshop Elements II at work. Any help is appreciated.

Someone at work asked me to tune the carbs on his Norton Commando, so he can give rides to his friends. I have a basic screwdriver, a Craftsman flat-edge. I have no idea where to put it or how to turn it, and what to listen for as I adjust. I have an idea that an even idle is what I should be looking for, that’s about all I know.I have a garage at work. Any help is appreciated.

Ho, ho, ho. Merry Christmas Peter!

sarcasm notwithstanding, here are some basic rules to go by: keep the image dimensions below 760 pixels wide and not taller than about 550 pixels high – this will ensure that the pictures will fit on most people’s screens without scrolling

a good guide is 600×400

try to save the files in a reduced quality (lossy) .jpg format (without degrading the appearance of the picture too heavily) so that each image remains under 100k in size (this will ensure that several can be attached to an email without fear of it not sending)

I figured someone will get me for asking this kind of question in a sophisticated group like this. Steph was kind enough to help with exactly what I was looking for, it was good advise. I enjoyed your story though……..Happy Holiday to you as well………Peter

Hey Peter, I couldn’t resist, good to see you kept your humour. Actually "sophisticated group" might be a little off the mark. Hope you catch the graphics bug in the new year!

youre very welcome peter
everyone has to learn this stuff whether they pick it up intuitively due to their enormous cranial capacities, or have to be painstakingly led by the hand… and HELPING is what these newsgroups are about anyhow isnt it?????

perhaps some of the more seasoned veterans could take the time to rememeber what it was like to know nothing about a subject, and how much people’s help was appreciated at that time!
