From the Photoshop CS ReadMe file:

| Thumbnail Icons for .psd files
|
| Photoshop CS no longer provides thumbnail icons of .psd files | through operating system folder windows. Please use the File | Browser to view your .psd thumbnail files.

For a while back, there was a humongous thread about the subject in Adobes Photoshop forum. You can find it here:
< http://www.google.com/groups?&as_umsgid=2cce3b9c.-1@webx .la2eafNXanI>.

Some are using the old psicon.dll (which is removed in PS CS because of the problems it caused). Others just keep PS 7 in their system and associate PSD files to it instead of to PS CS.

thanks thomas – and thats what i get for never reading the ‘readme’ files when i install software!
being a pc user i have always turned my nose up at the File Browser since XP has high quality thumbnail view for all images, i guess i got a little spoilt lol, and now shall have to "do as mac users do" if i want to browse my PSD’s

(i bet i get a storm of criticism now for my dig at mac users – no offense intended – well, maybe a little!) (joking)

I’m not very satisfied with the File Browser in Photoshop. It’s way too slow. Maybe it’s because my computer isn’t very fast either, but no matter what the reason is, I prefer ThumbsPlus to browse through my images. I’m only using the File Browser in Photoshop when I’m browsing AI or EPS-files made in Illustrator because ThumbsPlus doesn’t support those two formats (unfortunately).
Because I still have Photoshop 7 installed, I can see PSD icons as thumbnails in Explorer, but I still prefer ThumbsPlus. It’s way faster than Explorer.
