Photoshop- MultiLayer/ Move Tool Problem

Previously I was able to select the move tool click on the layer on the document and move the selected layer. Now, I have to select the layer on the layer menu then move with the move tool. Does anyone have a solution?
I am working with 7.0 on Windows.

Make sure that autoselect layer is NOT checked.

I did not know autoselect was option so I have looked and it does not appear to be selected?

That’s why you are havingt to select the layer in the Layers palette first, Cyn
