PS7 Stopped Working…Any Suggestions?

Hi,

I’ve been using PS7 for at least 6 months and all of a sudden it stopped working. Every other application on my computer works fine. When I open PS7, the opening credits run, and the application opens all the way to showing me the workspace and all of the toolbars. However, nothing works! Nothing is clickable! When I control/alt/delete…I get: "Adobe Photoshop (Not Responding)". I have reinstalled Photoshop twice, with no change. I am running Win98 with 384MB RAM & 6gigs of free space on a PII. Uninstall PS7 again and the delete the folder in C:\Program (Files)\Adobe\Photoshop7.0\
Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\ and delete the folder.

Now restart your system and when started, try to install again. You will have it running again!

Maybe try this:

– uninstall

– use a good registry editor and clean out each and every reference to Photoshop in the registry. make a backup of the registry first. maybe there’s a setting there that is not getting deleted during the uninstall.

Note for the future:
Make a backup copy of the registry BEFORE you install anything. It only takes a minute and may help when (not if) these situations arise.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have followed your advice exactly and, unfortunately, I still get no response for PS7 after it opens. Any new miracle ideas out there? I certainly need a miracle.

It sounds like a corrupted .dll that isn’t getting uninstalled when you uninstall PS. What are you using to do the uninstall?

I am using McAfee UnInstaller Online. They have an application remover that has always treated me right in the past. It let’s the native uninstaller do it’s thing first, then it comes in and lets you get rid of all the extraneous stuff that’s left behind. Thanks for your interest and ideas.

OK. Well that’s fine but what you really need is an uninstaller on your hard disk which monitors the install. That’s the only way of being sure that you kill everything when uninstalling. The McAffee system is guesswork at best. At the moment, I have Norton System works which contains CleanSweep (though I’ll be ditching that at next upgrade time since they’ve gone the activation route). I’d suggest you hunt around for an install monitor, even if you have to check everything m,anually afterwards to make sure (all software like Cleansweep will produce a log file for you which you’ll be able to use as a checklist).
