Clone or heal tool: picks up unwanted pixels

The probable reason is that you are exceeding the "source" area that you intend to use for the Cloning. Use smaller strokes and remember that the area that you are Cloning from is equal to the size of the Clone brush used. As far as making a restrictive Selection for the Source, I don’t think it can be done – someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

it may simply be that you are working too fast for the image data to be updated.

Let me explain,

When you are cloning the source data are selected then image processed into the destination image .

This may or may not involve layer effects or brush effects. When the cloning becomes a little too extensive or may be that the ‘pooter you are using just has to take a little longer to go through all the image processing stages. The result is that some "old" data may be pulled in instead of "new" data.

Try doing the cloning a little slower, smaller strokes will help too.

Any chance you can swap the card for a Radeon or a Matrox?

The nVidia cards are the worst of the main types for 2D and have a tendency to overheat…

Thanks Hecate, I may very well do that in the future. This card I’ve just installed is very tiny (only 32 megs but it was cheap on TradeMe) but it has a fan in it.
