Is it possible to set PS CS to save only the text info we add to a file? Our image cataloguing software finds words like "Adobe" and "Photoshop" and the name of whoever edited the picture. We did not put those words in – we do not want them in the files. All we want is the caption and keywords. Unfortunately we can’t tell the cataloguing s/w (an old SbgbJner Vaqrk Znantre) to look only in those IPTC fields.

It would be nice if we could stop PS from saving all the xmp <?xpacket begin=’stuff’ id=’morestuff’?> etc. data in a file too.

I looked at the registry tweaks in Goodies\Optional Plug-Ins\Photoshop Only\Optional Extensions just in case it was available, and on google
[groups]. No joy 🙁

The files are TIFFs (thousands of them at ~32MB) and jpegs.

Okay, this is strictly a TIFF issue.

I don’t see how CS adds the name of whomever edited the picture because that’s an entirely optional data field, but you have a good point regarding the default information. The File Info (Advanced) is sticky. You can delete the creator software strings, save the edited XMP file, replace the info using the edited XMP – do all the things you can in the CS dialog, but CS adds it right back.

All you can do is add (append) information to the header by editing the XMP file or template, but CS will not let you modify its standard header in any way. In fact, I don’t think you can open a TIFF file in which xap:CreatorTool data is changed.

I hope someone else can confirm/negate this.

At a rough guess, I’d say it’s probably adding the name in the computer registry. I.e. User Name, Company name etc.

Doesn’t do that on my CS.

Well, I did say it was a guess 😉

Maybe the OP is getting mixed up 🙂

Yes, it appears that the software we use to caption and keyword the images adds the username. The scanning s/w leaves the name of the scanner in , PS adds its own xmp stuff, FotoStupid (my name for it) adds other garbage. Looks like I’m going to have to write a program to remove the metadata we don’t want 🙁

Get new cataloging software, too. (Consider batch hex-editing the files – of course, after you do one and are sure it doesn’t blow away the original file structure.)

Take a look at ThumbsPlus and see if that’s what you need. Questions about it can be asked at the groups you’ll find at:
