This always was a good friendly newsgroup where people who needed help and advice were generally treated with courtesy, lately however it seems to have deteriorated because a few contributors seem to take delight in putting down those who know less about photoshop than they do. It would be better for the group if this type of attitude stopped.

Good point Cleve, a little levity goes a long way.

I think you’ll find it stops when people stop coming and asking questions which they would’ve been able to answer had they bothered to open the manual of help file. Too many people seem to think this is the place where they can get someone else to do the work for them. If you look at the sensible questions that are asked, people are only too willing to help.

I have to agree with Hecate here. I suspect many of the "newbie" questions are dabblers who are using unregistered copies and hence don’t bother to RTFM.

On the other hand, this newsgroup, out of half a dozen that I frequent, seems to have more than it’s share of trolls and arrogance. Perhaps that’s due to the number of subscribers, perhaps due to the above observation. It is not "fair" to automatically assume (as I have done) that novice users are necessarily pirates. It is just frustrating to those of us with basic knowledge of the product(s) to receive a continuing barrage of basic questions which are covered in the help file and can be found more quickly than waiting for a response from a newsgroup.

Thanks to all of you who have provided good answers to good questions, and let’s lighten up on the newbies. In my country, a person is innocent until proven guilty, not automatically guilty until they prove their innocence.

My New Year’s Resolution long ago was to stop spitting out the obvious "witty" comment.

Yes, that’s my feeling too and why, I think, people get easily upset.

This is true and I’m sure I’m guilty of occasionally losing it over a question where the person asking makes it perfectly obvious they haven’#t even used F1.

Right. A little less heat and rather more light is always good. 🙂

Yes, I can see that’s true. And you have succeeded admirably, I’m sure.

Sorry that you took it wrong. I’ll spell it out.

Although most folks like to hear thinks that make them laugh, what is funny is not the funny thing they also thought of. Your "witty" quip about resolution is one that almost everyone thought of before you typed it. Your attempt to be funny was an old joke before you thought of it.
