I have two image files created in RGB(1998) color space. For the most part the two files are monochrome (black and pale yellow)I want to match the the overall yellow tone between the two images. I need a step by step description of color matching between the two images. I know the monitor can fool you so I would like a method where I can check the numbers between the two images to see that the color is the same and will print the same. I am running Photoshop 7 for WindowsXP.

While what you see on the monitor can fool you, Photoshop does facilitate the measuring of color mixtures via the info palette and/or the eyedropper tool/color pickers.

There are many ways to adjust/replace colors in PS, and you’ve already got the best tool for checking/measuring the results.

Thank You for your comment but it really isn’t very helpful. I already know that I have a good tool. Perhaps someone could direct me to a step by step method. I know there are lots of ways of doing things but I would like to accomplish this task in the fastest way. I have a number of images to do. This is not the first time I have run into this problem. In fact I had someone direct me to place a eyedrop sampler on the source image then drag it to the target image. You can’t drag a sampler from one file to another as far as I can see. Perhaps there is a site that describes this procedure.

Thank You

Linda, I realized my reply wouldn’t help much in terms of the actual methods you might ultimately use to balance your color(s) as desired. I was merely addressing your next-to-last sentence.

Regarding those methods, I doubt anyone will be able to give you a "recipe" that will work on any image. There are too many variables, and methods could vary greatly with the nature of the images themselves.

If you have a way to post one or more sample images with questions specific to colors therein, I’m sure someone can give you some suggestions.

I know this isn’t immediately helpful either…sorry.

if you have black and yellow image you actually haave a duotone image not a monotone image. if you want your colors to match, one way to do it is to convert to greyscale first and then convert to duotone. in doutone you can select your black and your shade of yellow. you can then use that color for all of your images so they will all have the same yellow shade. you could also make an action of this if you have "a number of images to do".

Thank you. I will try the duotone method. That may very well be the fastest way to do the job.

Photoshop CS has a cool new feature for matching colours between documents. Can´t wait to try it out, although I´ve rarely needed it.

Thanks for the info. Do you think it will be available in the next regular upgrade of Photoshop. From the sounds of it I am not sure I want to get involved in CS.

I think PS CS is the next regular update (Photoshop 8 ).

They are just trying to confuse you.

Well, if they are trying to confuse me they are doing a good job. I guest the way we will know what versions we have next is Photoshop CS2,Photoshop CS3, etc. I do wish they would think of their customers as intelligent individuals. Playing games with names and grouping software together is just another way to make a buck and we all know it. I have no problems with making a buck. We all want to see Photoshop continue to exist and stay healthy. Maybe they are trying too hard to grow bigger and bigger. You know if you grow too big there is always the chance that you will explode. Thanks for unconfusing me.

I think they are following the Macromedia ‘MX’ trend. There´s something to be said about better integration of the Adobe apps. Adobe is known for their very different development teams, and if I was in charge of that boat, I´d get them to work together in a more holistic fashion.

I guess numbers are out – letters are in..

Well Mathias I will probably use it all the time.
I hope one can save it and apply it somehow. Maybe like copying and pasting Layer Styles.

Linda,

Photoshop CS will be the product bundled in the Creative Suite and ALSO the standalone product. You do not have to purchase the whole Creative suite in order to purchase Photoshop CS

Try this:
With the Magic Wand tool select a tolerance click on the yellow then go to Select-Similar. Copy this to the clipboard and past it to the other picture.

Just a thought! Might work. who knows. It depends on the picture. Takes only a few moments to try it.
