I just got an Apple G5 (Mac OS X), and it won’t let me install PS7. I keep getting this message: "There is no default application specified to open the document…" and then it will name the setup document I’m trying to open. PS7 is new enough that I would think it would work with this MAC. Am I missing something here? TIA

You need to buy the Mac version of the software.

Are you serious? Most programs DL to windows or MAC, and I was really hoping this would be the same, especially since it’s so new.

Yes, he is serious. Why should Adobe package both WindoZe and OSX on the same disc?

Huh? Since when? Windows computers can’t run Mac programs, and Macs can’t run Windows programs.

Almost every program I’ve ever purchased has the instructions for MAC users and for Windows. I thought this was the same.

That’s why people on Macs tend to stay on Macs and those on PCs stay on PCs. The machine itself is a small part of the cost of switching. The software is the biggest expense.
You can buy a Windows emulator for the Mac. That may be able to run Photoshop for Windows.

Thanks Laura, I’ll look into that. It would probably be a lot less expensive than re-purchasing PS! 🙂

It’s not unheard of. IIRC, Adobe CS packages include installers for both platforms. Separate disks, but you only pay once.

Some lower level programs have both on the same disk. Elements does. Adobe used to offer a discount if you were changing from PC to Mac and vice versa. Don’t know if they still do.

Re-purchasing Photoshop is not necessary; Adobe offers (relatively) inexpensive cross-platform licenses. You can’t find them in a retail store; you need to contact Adobe directly.

One thing that Adobe does offer is X-platform "upgrades" for the price of the standard upgrade. If you own a licensed version of Photoshop PC, and wish to change platforms, you can do so for the price of the current upgrade. This is unlike some software companines, which require that you purchase a complete new program for the platform change. Small, yes, but consolation, none the less.

You do not need to re-purchase any of the Adobe products to change platforms – it can be done for the price of the current upgrade.

I would rather chew razor blades than use Photoshop in an emulation program. *shudder*.
