We have Photoshop 5.0 We have yet to print a photo successfully. We can print a photo in ZoomBrowser software but if we try to do it through Photoshop it comes out all grainy and you can see evenly spaced horizontal lines running through it. I thought it may be due to some editing or filters we were applying, but I just tried an unedited photo and I got the same results. What am I doing wrong?

If you are using an ink jet printer and there are white stripes across the print, one or more jets in the print head may be clogged. See the documentation for your printer for instructions for cleaning the print heads.

Partially clogged print heads may not be obvious when you print text, but printing graphics shows every little flaw.

For the grainyness issue, check the print quality setting in your printer driver, and the printing options you have selected for Photoshop.

Also, Meg, if you’re printing jpegs, they’re pretty poor quality and intended for web use only. You might be seeing something like jpeg compression lines. Try cleaning the printer nozzles first. If that doesn’t work, you might try saving the photo as something else, like a tif. I had the same problem and it worked like a charm.

Meg,

Can you give us some more detail on the picture you are trying to print? What is the size of the picture in both inches and dpi?

Carlos
