Every time I open an image in Photoshop in the upper left of the image there is a little icon with an "01" followed by a box with a squiggly line in it. This icon disappears when the menu option "Tools/Extras" is selected. The problem is that this little icon appears every time an image is opened. I don’t want it to appear. Any idea on how to make the "Extras" icon go away unless I specifically request it?

You need to turn slices off.

Wow thank you! I knew someone would know how to get rid of the Extras icon. After selecting "View/Show/Slices" the "Slices" item was unchecked and the Extras icon no longer appears on images opened.
