Hi,

I took a trip to Alaska back in 1997 and had a decend digital camera at 97 standards. Of course, in today’s standards, 640×480 images don’t really fly that well.

What is the best way for me increase resolution of these images to at least 1024×768 without losing quality and making them all blury?

I’d appreciate some pointers for PS 6.01 or some good web sites that would help me in my quest to make these images usable.

Thanks.

Sam

Supose you are going to print at 240ppi which gives a good print, you can print a picture of 3.2 inches x 4.25 inches without interpolation.
1024:240=4.2. Bicubic in PS does a very good job in upsampling, but it is not only pixels it depends how good the CCD is and of course the lens also the exposure must be good and not a very hight ISO.
I had a Sony Mavica and the jpg was only about 75K and I was able to print satisfactory 4×6 prints. At least I could sell hundreds of them.
It was like a big polaroid. Folks liked that back then.

You may want to consider GENUINE FRACTALS. Check web site at www.lizardtech.com. A very good plug-in. I’ve had very good results & I do not use "pro" version.

GF won’t do a thing for 640×480 images that you can’t do by upsampling in PhotoShop itself, especially if you do the 10% at a time upsample steps.

GF starts to shine with images of 10MB and up (uncompressed size). The documentation admits as much.
