Adding text to a JPEG or GIF with Photoshop

I would like to cover up some text on an a JPEG
How do I :
a. add a background layer over the text
b.add text over that background layer
c.save the whole thing as one image

Is there anyway to paste a jpeg in these messages to demonstarte what Iam talking about.

To get rid of text on a gif or jpg, you need to paint over it in some way. I usually use the clone tool. With a GIF, you really want to change the image mode to RGB from indexed as a first step.

Adding text is easy. Just use the type tool. Save for web will save it.

No, you can’t post images in the forum, but you can post links to an example elsewhere on the web, so that those people who choose to go look can see it.

Thanks Don…I kinda thought that that was what I would have to do

I’m also trying to figure out how to figure out how to anchor the text on the cover up gif. When I pickspot on the GIF and start typing,it seems likeit is center justified and wanders all over the place.

If you have changed the GIF to image mode RGB, your text will form a new layer. Once you have finished typing the text, you can move it anywhere you want with the move tool.
