PS Elements has the default function "Straighten and Crop Image" under Image > Rotate which is great with straightening scanned slides and cropping them.

How can I get the same functionality from PS7? Since I have many scanned slides I want to automate the process.

Thanks for your help

Bernd

Not automatically, but you can use the ruler tool under the eye dropper. Use it to follow what should be a horizontal or vertical line or edge and press enter and it will automatically rotate the image. Then use the rectangular marquis to crop.

Bernd,

However it is an automated option that will be available in Photoshop CS. In fact you will be able to scan multiple photos at once and it will put them into separate documents and straighten if necessary.

Automated straightening? How does this work? Does it work at all?

For instance, I am having lunch at a restaurant in Los Angeles which sports its signage out front which includes a 1957 Cadillac Seville nose dived into the roof of the building. How does software know what to straighten? Does it rotate the image to make the Cadillac level and the building at a 87 degree angle? Does it find a tree or a telephone pole that you want to be vertical?

I’m not familiar with any software that can make a judgement call on what is to be considered ‘level.’

I would like to hear more on how this feature works for you.

PS, I’ve been using Photoshop for several decades but only use the measure tool to do straightening – very reliable way to line up exactly how it looks best, but it is not automated.

Ken,

I believe it uses the edges of the images themselves. Someone posted a link to some CS preview videos a while back and I don’t have the link here.

Basically you can fill the scanner with as many photos as it will hold and they will be separated into individual files and rotated to square if necessary. I am sure you need to have a certain amount of space between each image for this feature to work well.

Ahh… the automated world.

I’ll have to test its qualifications as I have elements on my Windows machine.

Thanks Photo Help.

Is it possible to accomplish the same thing in PS7 using Action or Plugin?

Thanks.
