Instead of creating the same layer mask for each layer, how can I create one mask that is applied to multiple layers?

Thanks for the help,

Click on one of the layers where you want to add the same layer mask. With that layer active, click on the mask in another layer and drag it down to the mask symbol at the bottom of the layers palette. The mask will be duplicated on the layer you have selected. Good luck. –sanders

Thanks for the help. It works well. It creates masks for each layer. I assume the file size will be much bigger with each mask. Is there a way to use one layer mask for many layers without adding a new lay mask to each individual layers?

Thanks,

Masks don’t add much to file size because they are single color units. But, if you would like to use just one mask for all, try this: Since an Adjustment Layer affects all the layers below it, you may want to add any Adjustment Layer (Curves, for example) which comes with an attached mask area. No need to change the Curve. Just use its mask component. If you want to limit the effect to certain layers below, you may want to include those you want it to affect by creating a Layer Set. Good luck. –sanders

Here’s a faster and perhaps better way. Put the layers in a layer set and add a mask to the set itself.

Link desired layers, make layer set, mask layer set.

Layer Set mode to Normal, not Pass Through if you have layers underneath.
