It’s clear that activation is tied to the 2 machines Pshop CS is installed on. If, however, you are installing the upgrade, is activation linkeed to one’s 7.0 serial no. or ???

Randy,

I think the better question might be whether the serial number for any version of PS is tied to the activation process or not, since one could also upgrade from versions prior to PS7. I’m inclined to think activation only utilizes info from one’s PC itself, but certainly tying in the prior PS version’s serial number could be done also. However, PS7’s serial number was in a different format from its predecessors, so that too would have to be taken into account…which should be pretty easily accomplished.

If upgrading from an earlier version of PS then you’ll need a serial number from version 7. You’ll need to contact Adobe for a new format serial number for earlier versions.

Activation REQUIRES and is TIED to a valid serial number. When you install PSCS you insert your serial number and PS then creates machine specific activation code. When you use the Internet based activation routine PS transmits BOTH numbers to Adobe and an automated reply inserts the authorisation code on your machine by return. This only takes a few seconds If using the Phone based system then you’ll need to key in the two numbers before Adobe will give you the authorisation code.

The following might help explain it further
