I need to add open arrows (that is arrows that have two parallel black lines for the stem and a ‘head’ that connects these two) to a picture for publication in a journal. This is the type of arrows they want. According to my helper this was an option in version 5 but we can’t figure out how to do it in version 6. Does anyone know if there is a way to get this type of arrow easily? Thank you. Kathy in Cincinnati

Shapes Tool. Click on custom shapes, then look in the options bar for a drop down. You can create a shape layer or a filled shape or a path, by selecting options on the left side of the options bar after you select the shapes tool.

Kathy,

The line tool has an arrowhead option.

Configure the arrowhead to the line weight (Length, Width, Concavity). Set the layer fill to 0%.
Set the layer style to stroke (Layer -> Layer Style -> Stroke).

If you want something a little more elaborate you can always find a free font that fits your needs.
