I recently converted some files for a brochure from Adobe RGB to CMYK before submitting the complete publication (In Pagemaker) to the printer.

Some of the files, after conversion, show the following ID in the box at the top when opened in Photoshop: Filename.TIF @ 50% (CMYK*)
What is the significance of the asterisk?

I get the dialog box that warns that the file isn’t in the same color space as the working space (Adobe RGB 1998) but that seems OK because it is, after all, a file that’s been converted to CMYK.

Is the asterisk merely a reminder that I’m using the imbedded profile (CMYK) instead of the working color space (Adobe RGB 1998)?
Or, is there another, perhaps more sinister, meaning? Hm-m-m-m-m? Pixmaker in FLL

It indicates your current CMYK profile is not your default profile.
