Just upgraded to CS on a Mac X.3. Maybe I’m missing something but I thought I’d be able to import straight from my digital camera (Canon S50) into photoshop but to get a raw image into PS I first have to get it out of the camera with "image capture"

I’ve looked through the file browser for an import command but cannot find one.

Can I import straight from my camera into photoshop?

Photoshop is not a device driver program; it is an image editing program. Photoshop can not run your camera.

Some digital cameras appear to a computer as if they are a disk drive, and Photoshop (and any other program) can get a picture from these cameras just like it can get a picture from a disk drive. Some cameras do not.

Canon cameras do not. You must first use another program to get the raw file off the camera onto your computer; then you use Photoshop to open the raw file.

The best and simplest way is to get a CF card reader. It will appear to your computer as just another drive and it save mucking around with cables connecting your camera to the computer.

You can access your raw files directly from your flash memory card via a card reader (USB). Its quicker and easier on the camera battery than downloading directly from the Canon anyway.

I’m PC based, PS7.01, and just purchased Nikon D70. No problems with RAW. I can cut and past as if the D70 is a HD or select all and drag into a new folder.
