Can’t save as jpg – no extra layers, channels, or paths

In photoshop I’ve downloaded a gif from the web and after modifications am wanting to save it as a jpg. The image has only the background layer, the index channel, and no paths. Jpg is not an option in my save as. I can save other images as jpg, but not this one. Any ideas?

Photoshop 5.5 (on Windows XP)
