For those of you that have bought the book, I am stuck trying to do something.

Chapter 1 – Photo to Sketch in 60 Seconds Flat

When I get to Step 6 to use the history brush, I get the international NO symbol instead of the brush.

Could this be because I am still using version 7?

Thanks

not seeing the book, but guessing, do you have a snapshot set in the history palette? are you painting over a section that HAS some history (ie not transparent)?

Mathias,

I can’t answer your question, but maybe you can answer mine.

Where did you get a CS Down and Dirty Book so quickly?

Also, it sounds like you are trying to accomplish a function with PS7 that is described in the CS book–wouldn’t it be that CS has "STUFF" that PS7 doesn’t? I haven’t made the purchase yet–just trying to learn about things.

Patti, I received my copy of Photoshop CS Down & Dirty Tricks by Scott Kelby a week before I received my copy of Photoshop CS from Adobe. I got mine thru Photoshop User (NAPP), Members $24.95 + $4.95 S/H and Non Members $39.95 + $4.95 S/H. The NAPP tel # I called for this book was 1-800-738 8513. I’m pretty sure Amazon & Barns & Noble also have this book in stock.
Very good book.

Mathias, I tried the "Photo to sketch in 60 sec flat" on both Photoshop 7 and Photoshop CS and I did not encounter on either version the problem you encountered using Photoshop 7 with Step #6 (history brush).

I have also tried it with PS7 and PS CS with no problems.

Go ahead and click on the canvas even though the "No" cursor is visible. An explanatory dialog will pop up that says why you can’t use the tool.

The "no" symbol appears for the History brush when something has changed from the original. For eample, if you changed the mode from RGB to Grayscale, you could not longer paint back in the colored original. That would be the most common reason in an exercise like this one.
