so basically 2 photos, 1 person in each, i’m trying to crop, but its all rectangular trimming, how can i trim so that it only outlines the body of the person appear? so my goal is to do that with each person in the pics then join them in 1 pic with a common background so it appears as if they’re in 1 photo. I tried the magic wand tool, but dunno how to use it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your trying to do a clipping/work path (close cutting). Look in the PS help files for using work paths…it will explain how to use work paths using the work path drawing tools.

Once you have figured out ho to use work paths, you should be able to cut out the images you want and paste them into a new document with the same background.

In Photoshop, the ability to make complex selections is where skill and experience come in. It’s the reason there are people who make their living editing images. There is no real magic there.

zippy’s right about paths, but there are other tools that offer effective methods for removing a background from an image. Often the best selections are made using a combination of tools or methods. You’ll have to make your own decisions as to which is best in a given situation. Other methods you might look up and/or try…

open an image which will be your background, open the photo where you want to crop the body off. Use the polygona lasso tool to trace the body. (Experience makes perfect) Once complete drag it to the new background. It will automatically create a new layer for it. Do the same for the other person’s image. that is it. You can move them around as you wish based on the layer they are on.
