My new camera takes either. If I buy some 512’s or 1 Gig’s, which would you buy? AND does a Canon 10D prefer one brand to another?

Tony,

I’ve not bought any Compact Flash cards recently, and the largest I have is 256MB. Whether larger cards move into a Type II category or not, I’m not sure. However, I think the type of card reflects only its thickness and not any performance-related characteristic. If you wanted to use microdrives in lieu of Compact Flash, microdrives are a Type II device and that is where you’d want to be sure your camera supports Type II. It sounds like you’re covered on both grounds.

Regards,

Daryl

Thanks for your response. Any cf brands you like or have had problems with?

Oops…sorry that I left out addressing that question earlier. Actually I only have a couple of CF cards, and both are Lexar media if I remember correctly. I’ve had no trouble with either of them. I don’t know that I’d be too concerned with any brand but would probably favor Lexar, SimpleTech, or SanDisk since they usually seem more readily available locally. I don’t know if this will help any since the write-up is pretty old, but you may find this link useful: <http://www.dpreview.com/articles/mediacompare>

Hope that helps,
