Students are logged into Novell Netware Server using Windows 2000. They save a file in Photoshop 7.0 without error then when they go to open the file next time they receive "unable to open – unexpected end of file".

Can anyone help me with the problem as they are losing their saved work.

The file is toast (most likely). Saving across a network wreaks havoc that is very difficult to control. There are latency issues and such. If you really want to prevent errors like that, save locally, then transfer (if that’s possible).

The students need to use a network drive as they are prove to formatting hard-drives if they have local access.

Thanks for your input though, I appreciate the feedback…………..Jo

With Win 2000 and XP (?) being able to be set to access networked folders on an individual user basis, it looks like it should be possible to SAVE the files on the local hard drive then COPY them, at the end of class, to their "save folder" on the server. Perhaps a talk with the IT people would come up with a solution. It might even become as easy as the student clicking an icon labled "BEFORE SHUTDOWN" which will start the transfer.
