I purchased and downloaded Photoshop CS online this evening. When I went to get the download I was offered a Training Video Workshop as well:

"Please click here to download the Total Training Video Workshop for Photoshop CS."

Doing so resulted in a Stuffit file which I could only open using my OS9.1 Mac (Stuffit-Windows refused..) and the resulting file is "Total Training.dmg" which I now discover is a CD image file which aparently works only with OSX which I don’t use….

Did Adobe think us PC folks were going to deal with this easily? Or perhaps they should have uploaded a PC compatible ISO image or something else that works on a Windows machine?

Anyone see a Windows version of this for download?

It would have been easy for Adobe to create a corresponding Windows version of this disk image… however, they did not do it, at least they did not provide a link to it. %&/@##…. hello Adobe!

Guess I’ll just have wait to download a cracked version which will probably be better packaged (just joking…!)

Just got off the phone with Adobe tech support. Seems there is no Training video available for those who purchase CS as a download. The ‘Total Training Video Workshop for Photoshop CS’ offered to Windows users on the order download page is a 225mb Mac OSX ‘DMG’ file only (Mac version of ISO) and cannot be used by Windows users.

* ***QUESTION****

DOES THE WINDOWS VERSION of Photoshop CS include 1 or 2 cds? Seems to me that Photoshop has been a 2CD set since v4. Has this changed for the Windows version?

The Win version of PS ships with a second cd containing the Total Training video.

There is no excuse for offering it as a download for Mac users and not for Win.

Now this is interesting information for me. One step above a "newbie" who is trying to figure out which way to go for upgrading my PS7–go for the suite or just the individual upgrade.

I recently became aware of Total Training Videos, so I also called them about pricing for the PS video.

Am I understanding this correctly, the price of PS-CS includes the total training video? The Total Training people didn’t tell me that.
Just quoted a price.

I’m confused.

But, it is only one disk to show the new parts of PSCS and not the full set. If you do use it, you will notice that all through the movies, Deke will be pushing for his complete set. It does a good job of showing some of the new parts of PSCS though, as only Deke McClellan can do.

Patty,

Boxed versions of Photoshop have included 2 CDs since version 4 or 5.. something around there. One CD being the Application CD, and the other is the Tutorial CD. The training video on the Tutorial CD for Photoshop v8 is called the "Total Training Video". It’s included in the box as part of the complete 2 CD PhotoshopCS product (Application CD + Tutorial CD).

The ‘online -download from Adobe- purchase’ of Windows PhotoshopCS offers this second download (225mb) as well, but neglects to mention that it’s only usable on a Mac(OSX only).

Hope this helps answer your question.

Patty, yes, there is a Total Training cd included with the boxed PSCS, but don’t confuse that with the full set of Total Training cds offered by Total Training.

The cd included with PS is useful but not very thorough and the presenter fairly frequently says something on the order of "if you want more detail on this, get the regular Total Training course."

I am a student and I purchased the educational version of PS7 and "intend" to upgrade either to the suite of perhaps just PS-CS through the educational version as well. It was my understanding from my prior research that there were no differences between the software (edu vs commercial)–but I didn’t receive a training CD with my original purchase.

So will I receive the training CD with the educational version??

Patty,

There is no difference in the actual application but it is often the case that Academic Versions ship without many of the ‘Goodies’ you get with the full product, so NO, you wouldn’t get it with an Academic version.

However, if you are upgrading, you won’t be upgrading to an Academic version but to a ‘normal’ upgrade FROM the Academic version. There isn’t such a thing as an ‘Academic Upgrade’

Len,

So even if I purchase the suite at my educational outlet, it will be the "regular" suite package like everyone else gets?

Just went back to my ‘Download your order’ page and see that Adobe has now replaced the incorrect OSX only ‘Total Training Video Workshop for Photoshop CS’ Tutorial CD download with the appropriate Windows version.

It was packaged a bit amaturishly. The unpacked "Start Video Workshop.exe" shortcut points to some folder that must have existed on the computer it was stored on:

\\saratoga\CDEng\esd\PHOTOS~1\Win\STAGIN~1\TOTALT~1\VWPSCS\V WPSCS.exe

Though if you click directly on VWPSCS.exe the video launches. Gotta run.. the popcorn’s almost ready and I’ve got the lights turned down low..

I for one will now sleep better tonight knowing that the world is once again rotating in the right direction :}

Patty, iirc the cd in 7 was a limeted time offer, so if you didn’t buy it within the time (a month or three, something like that) i don’t think it would’ve shipped.

Patty,

If you buy an Upgrade it will be a ‘standard’ upgrade regardless of where you purchase it.

But you should expect to pay pretty much the same price as if you purchase an upgrade from, say, Amazon or other retailers. AFAIK there has never been a discounted Academic UPGRADE for ANY Adobe software
