What has happened when there appears a #-sign after the color name in the top of an image frame? I have two such images and when checking in the Color settings I can not see any difference in the settings. Help!

Someone sent me the RGB#-file (JPG). InDesign did not want to place it. I opened it in Photoshop and tested to resave it in "Save for web" and then suddenly it was a regular RGB and InDesign would place it.

So what’s the difference?

# = untagged… ie NO colorspace
* = tagged wit a colorspace different than the ‘working space’.

the file (RGB) means the image is tagged with the same color profile as your working space.

A file that has no embedded icc profile will have the # in the title bar if you choose not to color manage the file. If a file has a profile other than what your working space is set to, and you choose to use the file in the embedded color space, a * will show up in the title bar to let you know that the file is in a color space other than your set working space. To view the associated profile for an image choose Document Profile from the popup next to the Scale readout at the bottom of the application window.
