In PSCS, when moving the cursor across different regions such as the image, menus, and palettes, the cursor is extremely slow to change from a brush to an arrow to a cropping too, etc. The change is almost instantaneous in PS
7.0. Is this a known problem? Is there a solution?

The system is Dell Dimension 8100 2 GHz, 512 MB, and Win XP SP1.

Best,
Christopher

My PS CS is doing the same exact thing. I just hope they come out with a patch in the very near future.

Are you running CS with the Browser open? Have you tried turning down you video card’s acceleration? Have you looked at other threads that mention this problem?

If this problem persists, please post your system information and conditions under which this problem occurs.

It comes and goes with me; I’m still trying to pin it down.

Thanks, it was the File Browser. When the Browser is closed, cursor update speed is the same as PS 7.0. Thanks!

have you guys let the browser finish running through the thumbnail creatiion process? it seems to do it in several passes. near instant low res thumbs, then it takes longer to do the high res ones. I just walked away and watched some tv while it processed, now that it’s done it seems to run fine even with the browser open.

After I unchecked High Quality Previews in File Browser preferences everything runs much better. Including the cursor.

I tried unchecking HQ Previews but I seemed to get them anyway. The pic started out very pixelated, then transformed into a much clearer image… all with HQ deselected. Am I misunderstanding how this is supposed to work?

Yes! HQ also gives you fully colour managed previews that accurately reflect how the image will appear in Photoshop when opened. The thumbnails you are seeing are just like those from PS7 FB.

I prefer to set my HQ preview thumbnails to 256 pixels (none your postage – see Edit>Preferences>File Browser and define the custom thumbnail size.

If you don’t want to see colour managed and therefore accurate previews then do as you did and turn the feature off.
