Hi there..I made a post earlier but didnt get any help so I am posting this again. I have websites to make but they are on hold due to this problem. Hopefully someone can help me. The problem is:

When I save images as PNG-24 using the save for web feature, they come out looking as if I saved them in a .jpeg format. (In the save for web window the image looks exactly like I want it to as a PNG-24 but when I insert it onto a webpage or view it in an image previewer it does not). I need them saved as PNG-24 because I do alot of images with a transparent background and use fading filters such as the Gradient Glow filter in Eyecandy 4000. Bottom line is, I need the parts of the images that are transparent to stay that way and when I save them as a .gif the "fading filters" are extremely pixelated. I have made many images and saved them as PNG-24. It was just working fine the other day in fact. All of a sudden I’m having this problem now. I just got finished doing a complete uninstall and reinstall of all adobe products on my computer, reg keys and all, and am still having the problem. Please somebody save me..this is driving me crazy :/

I’m using PS 7.0 on windows XP Pro. Thanks for your much needed help!

I appreciated you replying YrbkMgr and I can see your point somewhat BUT…I have used PNG-24 images on alot of different sites and have viewed them on alot of different computers and never had a problem. I know that older browsers arent as compatible but I’m not too worried about that. My main concern is to be able to create and save my images without losing a great deal of quality which I can’t do all of a sudden for some unknown reason… 🙁

Look, I’m not trying to be antagonistic here. But please consider this.

I have used PNG-24 images on alot of different sites and have viewed them on alot of different computers and never had a problem.

The fact is, it is a widely known fact that without an obscure add-in that Internet Explorer will not display the transparency correctly. There are many links to this, but here’s a petition to Microsoft to include it:

<http://www.petitiononline.com/msiepng/petition.html>

I don’t know what you saw, but if you’re telling me that IE, on other computers has displayed transparencies correctly, it flies in the face of what I have learned here in this forum.

I’m no expert on PNG’s, and it’s possible that someone will come along and give you a tip that will be your "ah ha!", but I would be really surprised. I think that’s why you aren’t getting a a lot of other posters.

I’m not trying to be a snot, just that *I* would never use PNG-24’s because there’s no benefit. File size is bigger and IE doesn’t support tranny. <shrug>

Peace,
Tony

I was having a problem like this, and was searching for a solution (which is how I found this month old thread), but could find a fix. My problem was that a round button which should have had an alpha channel surrounding it only contained valid alpha information to 1 or 2 pixels outside the button. To correct it I added a layer filled it with black, and set the opacity to 1% (when I set it to 0% no alpha channel was saved). This corrected the problem.

However, I am using this in Windows software (calling the Win32 API AlphaBlend function), I don’t know what if any affect this will have with web browsers…

Maquar,

I would never use PNG files on a client web site. It is very easy to fake transparency with JPG’s and background matching. It may not be quite as efficient if you change backgrounds often across pages while using the same images but at least you know it will always look the way it should.

In the end you will do it the way you want, but just know that using PNG’s on a web page doesn’t make you web savvy, rather quite the opposite.

Good luck!

Maquar,

Unfortunately you still haven’t found a solution to your problem. If it once worked for you and now doesn’t and nothing else has changed try resetting your preferences.
