What kind of "conversion" are you doing?
Reading RAW and saving as JPEG?
If so, what is the point of using RAW in the first place? You should save in a non-lossy format – PSD is the obvious one. Are you using "save for Web" – if so, that is what is deleting your EXIF data; it strips everything to reduce file size [for the Web].
Why I’m saving as JPEG is irrelevant, but if you have to know, I post them on the web. My point is that the EXIF data is not preserved. This is not a problem with the previous version of Camera RAW, or any other RAW conversion program (such as C1, BreezeBrowser etc..). What comes to using RAW in the first place … you are obviously not a photographer 😉
Why I’m saving as JPEG is irrelevant,
NOTHING is irrelevant.
Bob
jouko,
As Colin points out in his post, if you’re creating the JPEGs using Save for Web, the exif will not be retained. Is this what you are doing?

Fortunately Bob and Stephanie understood what I was getting at.
So let’s try again.
When does the EXIF data get lost? If it’s when you do Save for Web, this is a feature, not a bug. If you want to make a JPEG with this data, use Save As.
BTW, I am a very experienced photographer.
Ok, sorry about that… I’m not using "Save for Web", I know it takes out the extra exif info to save some space…
I just open a RAW file, resize it, and save as JPEG. EXIF info is minimal, all camera info is gone, the only thing left is PS stuff. An example what’s left:
File: – G:\Test\CRW_5246.jpg
Orientation – Top left
XResolution – 240
YResolution – 240
ResolutionUnit – Inch
Software – Adobe Photoshop CS Windows
DateTime – 2003:11:08 00:00:19
Artist – Jouko Ruuskanen
ExifOffset – 192
ColorSpace – sRGB
ExifImageWidth – 3072
ExifImageHeight – 2048
As I said, the RAW plugin for PS 7.0.1 was just fine in this respect
I forgot to mention one thing… PS CS "File info" does show the full exif info, obviously it’s picking it up from the database/RAW file/XMP files… any other app I use to open the saved file shows only the info PS added, no camera data left
jouko,
I think your question is answered in the CameraRaw plugin forum (located at the top of this forum). The thread title is:
Photoshop CS RAW saved to JPG and EXIF data vanishes
Thanks for the pointer Stephanie, the link answered my question… the RAW converter really DOESN’T write the EXIF data…
Well, I can always use BreezeBrowser to copy the exif info, that’s just an extra step … I just can’t believe this kind of major bug ( a "technical issue" as it’s referred to in the RAW plugin forum) was left in the product…
I also use PS Album, and now it can’t read the original dates from the JPEG file! Two brand new Adobe products %&¤#¤%/&(
