I ran Adobe Gamma, created an ICC file for what I ran and set as default. However, when I set the default back to sRGB It has chanced and it is no longer views as the sRGB default I had before running Adobe Gamma. Can AG be turned off and then turned on again without rerunning it.

Beverly you need to de-activate AG in the Windows start-up menu. (If you use a Mac, I don’t know, I use a PC).
Click on "Start" and then "Run" type msconfig and enter. The menu which shows up has several chapters, one is called I think "Start up" or similar (I have a french version ther it is called "Demarrage"). This lists all programs which are run when you start your computer. Look for Adobe Gamma and deselect it. Re-start your computer. That all

Bev,

Are you sure you didn’t just over-write the sRGB profile with the one you created in AG? If you use sRGB as your starting point in AG, you MUST change the name when saving the profile, or you will just save it over the top of the original sRGB profile, thus destroying that profile.

No, I was very careful to name the AG file as AG 11-6-03. When I check the color management thru properties, the default is AG 11-6-03.

You know, I had adjusted the color on this new notebook thru properties/settings/advanced/NVIDIA GeForce 4200/nview display mode/device settings/color correction which shows a curve and allows adjustments to the red/green/and blue channels. I had the color on the screen and in PS very close to 2200 printer output. Then someone on one of the popular forums advised me to set it back to default which I did and run Adobe Gamma. I really liked the settings in the video card much better than AG.

A question as an aside, if I had overwritten the sRGB profile would there be any way to set it back to it’s installation default?

Bev,
" question as an aside, if I had overwritten the sRGB profile would there be any way to set it back to it’s installation default? "

The profiles are downloadable from the Adobe Downloads area. Over-writing the sRGB profile is a common occurence <G> .

No you would need to re-install Photoshop…

Now, as you are using a notebook, I assume this problem is with the ‘attached’ LCD screen and not a secondary monitor. Adobe Gamma is NOT designed for use with LCD screens, so this is probably the root of your problem.

Remove Adobe Gamma Loader from your startup folder.
