One of my graphics cards died and since they were both old I bought 2 new cards. Everything on my system works fine except PS 7. It will launch but when I try to open an image it PS locks up, same thing happens if I try to edit preferences. Basically anything that opens a new window in PS causes it to lock up.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled PS 7. I have removed every reference to PS 7 in the system registry, and deleted the folders PS leaves behind after uninstall. Problem still occurs no matter what. Also, I have returned the first pair of cards and got another pair from a different manufacturer. Its not the cards.

Tech info:
Windows XP, P4, 1gig ram, current video cards are nVidia GForce 5200 plus and MX 440 SE

Any suggestions, ideas?

Thanks, Ken

Try turning down the video acceleration, and contact the makers of your video card.

Found it. Needed to trash the general preferences in the Documents and Settings/"user name"/application data/adobe/photoshop/7.0/PS 7.0 settings

Buried in a nice convenient place.
