Hello,

I’m having trouble using my type tool in Photoshop 7. This all began when I bought my Compaq Presario Notebook. The problem is, I can’t create line breaks in my paragraphs. The only way I’ve been able to achieve creating multiple line paragraphs, is by typing them in notebook and then pasting them into my Photoshop document or creating a text box and letting the words wrap. The only thing that does happen when I press enter, is that it commits my edits (similar if you were to press the enter key on the number pad, for those that have one).

I’ve tried reinstalling PS7 and I’ve tried holding every other key imaginable while pressing enter, such as shift, alt & ctrl, but nothing works.

Anybody had this problem or have any suggestions?

Thanks

Nate

You need to use enter, not return. The return key is usually the one by the numeric keypad. On some laptops, there’s only one "Enter" key and it’s usually mapped to "Return". SOMEtimes it does double duty for Enter by applying the laptops "Function" (sometimes called Fn) key before pressing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dave,

I hadn’t thought of that before, and it makes sense. I do have a "Fn" key, but it didn’t work. I tried both pressing it before hitting my enter key and pressing the two simultaneously.

Do you have any other possible solutions?

I would either check with Compaq or dig out the manual. Not knowing your particular machine it’s hard to guess.

One ps thing you can check is open the character palette from the windows menu and check the "Leading" value is set to "Auto".

You may want to try Shift+Enter – that works for me.
