In Photoshop 7 one of my favorite keyboard shortcuts is the Ctrl>Alt>0 shortcut which instantly brings whatever image you are working with back to 100% size in Photoshop. In Photoshop CS this short cut does not work. Why in the world would Adobe get rid of the best short cut going? How can I get it to work? Thanks.

You might want to do a search in the forum on that topic.

Found nothing in the forum search regarding my problem.

That is odd. While there are three threads on this same topic on the second page (click More at the bottom of the Photoshop Windows topic list, and look on that page), searching for "ctrl cs" returns just this thread.

It seems no ctrl key works.

Adobe has a patch on their web site to fix your problem, but they’re charging $649 for it.

It works fine now. Here’s the solution. I un-installed and then re-installed the whole damn thing. It took some time but now ctrl>alt>0 works fine as do all the ctrl shortcuts. BTW: I didn’t get what those other threads ment about crack files. I looked into every Photoshop CS file and could find nothing that said crack.

hullodare,

MOST of the reports of Ctrl keys not working are related to folks who have bypassed the activation mechanism in Photoshop – the mechanism has been cracked, illegally.

There have been scant reports, like yours, where something just went awry – but a reinstall solved it.

The illegally circulating version of photoshop on the net is the first thing that comes to mind when someone reports that all their control keys don’t work, because this is a hallmark of the (less than perfect) crack.

So if you have a legal version and were simply experiencing difficulties that are now solved, accept my apologies for any insinuation of having a crack – it’s just that a crack is the MOST common reason for the symptoms you presented.

Peace,
Tony

Tony really didn’t explain the term crack, which I think you are unfamiliar with. This is a term for an illegal copy of Photoshop, where hackers (actually crackers, but that is another entire thread) take a copy of a program and make changes to it so that the copyright controls are bypassed.

In the case of PS CS, this was to turn off the activation, which also happened to turn off all the control key functionality.

I thought Tony was quite polite in his first few messages in not accusing you of using a crack copy, since it sounds like you have a legitimate copy and were experiencing a much more rare problem.

This forum is primarily composed of people who have paid for their programs, and we do not take kindly to those people who do not, but then have the gall to come here looking for us to help them.

Hello there,

As added info, for anyone who installs the crack and subsequently sees the problem with the CTRL key, the reason an uninstall & reinstall of PS CS corrects the problem is because it overwrites the "cracked" files. With the correct files restored, the activation prompt will be seen with the next instance of starting up PS CS.

Again, this isn’t to imply Hullodare applied the crack but just to clarify why a PS CS uninstall/reinstall could fix problems caused by the crack, just as it often resolves other errant problems possibly caused by a faulty 1st-attempted installation.

Daryl

Just to be perfectly clear. I recently built a new PC with a 2.8 MHz P4 processor. 1 gig of RAM and two 120 gig sata hard drives. I built it with Photoshop in mind because it is the software I essentially live in. Have a look at the great price I got on it here. < http://www.provantage.com/buy-7emrl9cr-photoshop-cs-v8-0-win dows-adobe-systems-retail-23101764-shopping.htm>
I had Photoshop 7 and I didn’t want the upgrade. I kept that on my old machine. Instead I opted for the full version because it IS a new machine and I wanted everything pristine.
Regards, Hullodare.
PS….I hope that company I bought it from sold me a legitimate copy. It looks legit to me.

Hullodare,

I’ve never shopped at Provantage, but I’d say they look to be a perfectly legitimate dealer based upon a cursory glance at their site. Hopefully your problems with CTRL key were just one of those random problems similar to another user who found reinstalling his keyboard driver corrected the situation.

Regards,

Daryl
