Why is unsharp mask best for making images come into focus.

If you are just asking about the relative merits of the sharpen tools tools that come with Photoshop, the advantage of Unsharp Mask is the ability to use the controls to adjust your sharpening. There is nothing wrong with the other sharpening tools in Photoshop, as long as they are giving you the kind of results you like and need.

one of the best reasons for using unsharpen mask (for me) is that the radius and threshold sliders allow you to control the range of the sharpening effect across the image, instead of just the amount of overall sharpening.
