I use photoshop 6 on windows xp pro. on my DELL. I believe I have plenty of memory. It says 13.2 Gig on local drive.
I’m having a lot of trouble lately.
* When I do a "save as" photoshop deletes my original (which is a big problem) * When I go to dupelicate the original I get an error message "can’t complete your request because of a program error" These don’t happen all the time, just enough to my life miserable…they seem to happen at the worst times.
I would really appreciate anyone’s help.
Thank you,
Sam

Resetting prefs is alsways a good start [see FAQ].

If that doesn’t help, maybe you can tell us:
what file format are you saving [as]?
are you specifying a different filename or what?
how much RAM do you have?
what is your PS scratch disk set up?

Resetting prefs didn’t work
I save as JPG format
Yes, I specify a diferent name
My computer has 256 – I allocate 60% to photoshop
I only have one scratch disc.

When I do a "save as" photoshop deletes my original (which is a big problem)

On initial inspection it appears you are saying that you have a file: Myfile01.jpg, you open it, edit it, and do File|Save As… and you type in a new name Myfile02.jpg. Are you saying that you do NOT get a Myfile02, you only have Myfile01, and it is altered?

I’ve NEVER seen that with any app. If what you are reporting is true, I would be more suspect of your OS and configuration than photoshop itself. Photoshop is more discriminating than other applications, but as far as I am aware, once you move to file saving functions you call on the OS.

Sooo…. IMO, if you want some help here, start out by stating how you know that Save As deletes the original.

You mean you couldn’t reset or doing that did not help?

Tony’s [YrbkMgr] comments/queries are very important. Please clarify.

to further clarify, did you get the dialog asking you to reset photoshop’s settings? or did you delete the prefs file manually? (per the procedure in the FAQ)?
