I am fairly new to PhotoShop but need a quick fix (hopefully!!!) for a photo. I need to delete the entire background of a photo leaving just the dog….no scenery or people. Is there a method to accomplish this task?

There are many ways to remove backgrounds. Here is an introduction: <http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/branches/branches.htm> Hair and fur can be challenging.

the easiest is to use the Extract Tool, under the filter menu. First, draw a selection all around your dog with the marker tool. Then fill the inside of the selection with the paint bucket, and click "extract". Note that it still involves some work on your part, and that low-contrast areas will not be extracted very well. You’ll have to touch it up… There is no one-click way to do that.
You can also do it with a layer mask if you have the patience, you have more control over it.

note: if there are some areas that are of low contrast and don’t extract well, create a levels adjustment layer to increase the contrast to ridiculous amounts. After the extract, discard the layer.

HTH.

Axel

Thanks for your help and reference, Gary. The www.myjanee.com site is great.
