I use a Canon 1D and the files come out with a 656F0001.RAW or 860B0001.RAW file name from the camera. When I convert the RAW the files the file name takes on an extention of 656F0001_RT8.tif or 860B0001.tif after the file name. I then use an action to create screen copies as Jpgs for viewing.

I have used ACDSee to batch rename the Jpgs with a lot of good results. However, in trying the same with PSCS I find I cannot retain the Alpha character in the file name. It only allows me to use numeric characters.

Is this failing on my part or is it the failing of PSCS to plan for Alpha characters in the file name. I have a friend who uses the client name as the first part of the file name.

Help appreciated…

Al

Mark,

I go into the browser and select a number of files to rename and then type in the starting serial number… Then I right click on and choose batch rename… The I want to modify the document name from 860B3886_RT8_copy.jpg to just 860B3886.jpg… I just tried renaming the files from 860B3886 through 860B3951 to 860B3887 thru 860B3952 and it wouldn’t do it… So I tried Document Name + Serial Letter + extension and it added an a, b, c… + extension and had the starting serial # at 3887 and it renumbered everything starting at 860B3886a …

It will not change the 860B3886 and maybe it is because making the first file 860B3887 would cause a duplicate number complaint because the 2nd file is 860B3887, but the again it is not 3887 it is instead 3887b…

What is up?

What is up?

Ah, I see what you’re saying. You can’t type an alpah characters in any of the filenaming boxes (at least on Windows)

that would be a bug…

Mark,

You are Correct! I am using Windows 2K… The only thing I can type in any of the boxes is numbers… I can type numeric characters in any box but not ALPHA characters…

So it is a bug and not me?

Thanks,

Al

So do I get a bumper sticker or a lapel button that says "I found the bug" or something?
