How do the colors mix when you print an image in RGB mode? How does this differ from choosing CMYK?

Aside from simply changing the mode to CMYK, are there any other basic things that should be done to an image such as sharpening after making this change?

When you print in Photoshop it ALWAYS prints CMYK in RGB mode. It’s converted to RGB behind the scenes unless you have a CMYK printer. Inkjets are RGB devices for all intents and purposes, so you should not be converting RGB images to CMYK for output to an inkjet. Inkjet software is expecting RGB data that it will convert itself.

yes … what Tony said. Use CMYK for press, RGB for inkjets/photo printers/etc.

Slight re-phrase of Tony’s comment:

When you print in Photoshop it ALWAYS prints CMYK in RGB mode UNLESS printing to a PostScript device.

Non-PostScript printer drivers cannot pass CMYK data, and so the application has to convert to RGB before sending the data.
