I have a model on one of my sites that is wearing green…We would like her outfit to be a dark burgundy instead to match the site. Is there an easy way to do this? I’ve tried replace color, but the shadows never look right…it always looks retouched, and very amateurish. Thanks for the help!

Once you have a good selection of the dress, 2 things to try:

1- On a new layer set to "color" in blending mode fill that selection with the color you want. If the shadows appear too neutral try the "screen" blending mode. Better yet, duplicate the "color" mode layer and set the copy to "screen" and play with the opacity of the "screen" layer ’til you’re happy.

2- Use the selection to transfer the dress to its own layer (Ctrl-J), and then, after setting the desired color as your foreground color, use Image>adjust>hue/saturation and check off colorize and adjust the saturation slider to your liking.

And there are more…

The four examples here: http://www.bigopera.com/tests/dress.htm were all done by adjusting the sliders in Image>Adjust>Hue/Saturation with the Colorize box CHECKED.

So the easiest way to do this is to make a layer with the object’s color I want to change and adjust that way.

Thank you!

I would select the object [dress in this case] – maybe using magic wand? – then, with that selection active, create the adjustment layer, which will automatically have a mask attached. Then, if the edges of the selected [masked] area aren’t right, you can easily tweak them.

would select the dress layer and go into hue/saturation..click on colorize and move the sliders till you get your color..very quick.
