Can someone tell me if the PS7 upgrade will work with PS4 or do I need a more recent version? I’m also upgrading my computer and someone told me today that PS had been optimize for Hyper Threading, is this true and if so would that be 7.0.1 or is it CS?
Thanks.

Dave,
Thanks for your help. You are the person I need to reply since you are a Pentium 4 user. I use an Athlon XP 1800+ with 768mb PC2100 memory and use Phtoshop 4. I’m actually not upgrading yet but building a system for a friend and I want to make the right decision.
I thought about Athlon64 but decided to wait till they get their act together. My nephew uses the same CPU you do and he also just started using CS and loves it because he was using 6. The trouble is he is not a computer expert. After hearing from you, I’m going to go with a P4, 3.0c with 2-512 PC 3200, SATA hdd’s in RAID 1 for safety, DVD-RW,
19" NEC CRT, Antec case w/430W, XP Pro. I can get the P4 system for less than an Athlon XP 3200+ system. I’m not sure about the video card though. I see you have an ATI 9700 and I guess you are a gamer.
This computer will just be for graphics an music download (my friend is a DJ). I use an ATI 9000Pro and thought about either the 9200 05 9600. What do you think? Also can I upgrade my registered PS 4 to CS
without buying the whole thing?
I tried to email you but it came back. thanks for your help, Ed.

Let me jump in since I just upgraded my version 3 to CS. I had to do it over the phone, and it was not particulary easy, unfortunately. I described the process in a another thread here, but basically, the tech support gal didn’t know that versions prior to 5 could be used to upgrade, and also couldn’t easily confirm my prior registration. Eventually, all problems were fixed, but it took a bit of time and persistence.

yes. but i’m a developer first (programmer)! 🙂 Actually I bought the 9700 because 1) it’s an all in wonder and includes a TV (cable) tuner. I’m also a football fan and I’d freak if i couldn’t watcht the NY Jets on my system! 2) it’s 8x agp and I wanted to make full use of that on my intel d865perl board.

I use an ATI 9000Pro and thought about either the 9200 05 9600.

This is my second ati card and I’ve not been disapointed yet. Decent drivers. Good solid cards. BTW, the 9700 AIW blows away the old rage 128 AIW for television picture clarity. (software i suspect).

I can get the P4 system for less than an Athlon XP 3200+ system.

sounds like a nice system. I got mine a few months ago from <http://www.googlegear.com> . I got one of the "barebones" systems and added in the dvd and the sata hard drive (only one). The vid card I got locally at a comp-usa. For me the motherboard was important. I chose the intel board for features and speec compatability. This is my first intel mobo and maybe not coincidentally, the first machine that I can actually use the sleep mode on without something on my system freaking out.

Ed,

I just had a new machine built for me. AMD 64 3200+,gig of ram, GForce fx5200, and I must say it screams. No problem what so ever with PS CS. I am very happy with it.

Thanks everyone for your help.
Even after Marion’s post, I think I’ll go with the P4 because of PS being optimized for it. I thought I could save money for my friend with PS but it sounds like Adobe has gotten as tough as MS. I don’t want to upgrade my copy of PS on my friends machine, I want it on my own. He’ll either have to start with PS Element or spring for a full version PS.
Dave, I think you’re telling me you have an ATI 9000Pro but what about the 9200 or 9600, any advantage with either over the 9000? Do you know anything about them? I’m going to use an MSI D865PE Newo 2, Deluxe. I can’t see that the Intel board has dual channel memory, RAID, Lan or Firewire. I checked googlegear and they are now ZipZoomFly. How do you like them – prices are about the same although NewEgg, who I’ve used before is very reasonable with shipping. I guess we’re not supposed to get commercial in these posts but newegg is good and the service dept. answers the phone on the first ring, no dead air.
Thanks again all, Ed

no i have an ati all in wonder 9700 pro. 🙂

Do you know anything about them?

not specifically, no. Ati’s products pages are great for comparisons though. That’s how I picked the 9700 pro.

I’m going to use an MSI D865PE Newo 2, Deluxe.

consider the intel board!

can’t see that the Intel board has dual channel memory, RAID, Lan or Firewire

all of the above. < http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/rl/index.htm?iid=ipp_br owse+motherbd_d865perl&amp >;

ZipZoomFly.

wow! 🙂 They (googlegear) were fine. Great price, fast service, nice people on the phone. Looking over that site, they don’t seem to have the selection they did 6 months ago in the barebones area. If you’re happy with newegg, i’d stick with them!

Dave, last post. Thanks again, I’ll check the sites. I was hoping you might have some inside info on the cards. I tried to thank you personally via email but my mail keeps coming back. I got the address from your site so I figured you wouldn’t mind the mail. Ed
