Photoshop immediatley crashes after opening

I am running Photoshop 7 for WinXP
My problem is that when I double click the Photoshop icon, the program loads all the things and brushes and all then dissapears off the screen. It’s not minimized or anything, just gone.

there’s a way you can startup photoshop in ‘safe mode’. can’t remember the key you have to hold down tho!
